Hi Folks,

One of our number is experiencing very high consumption of oil with his Roadster S.

The purpose of this thread is to focus on oil consumption for the 3.4 litre engine only, so please contribute where appropriate

To start things off, my average oil consumption is:

Charles - B3S Touring - 130,000 miles - 7,500 miles per litre - SLX

Charles, many thanks for this, for the record the 2005 Roadster S is returning about 500 miles per litre of Castrol SLX OW-30

Thinking of trying the Castrol Edge to see if things improve

Castrol Edge is the same thing.

What you might want to try is the 10w-60 - which is the suggested oil for the problematical early 2000 B10 3.3 engines

When I bought the car from Sytner at Leicester it had 8600 miles on the clock, after the first 500 miles I had to put in 1 litre, I'm sure they used the same oil as in Nottingham Mobil 1, which I think they put in all their cars, since then the mileage is up to 11,800 and it's just showing above the low level so guess this will be around 1500-2000 miles/ltr and of course the oil will still be predominantly Mobil 1 allthough it's being topped with castrol 0-30, as per the recommended oil by Alpina.

I know a lot of people are very particular about oils but in my industry most problems on ships I have been on feature Castrol as the major culprit, but Mobil/Shell have always to me proved to be a more stable oil. Mind you thats some years ago and things move on.
For myself I'm not too nurotic about the lable as long as it's a Major company, with the right spec.

1500 miles per litre or there abouts. Mainly long journeys and it gets driven properly!
