F31 D3 Touring

Post by JimWD »

Hi all - long-time lurker here.

I’m currently in an F31 335d (my third F31), but I’ve been hoping to get into a D3 for quite some time now.

I’ve only seen one come up for sale in recent months — the Mineral Grey Touring that Joe Achilles reviewed on YouTube a few years back. I was tempted, but it would’ve also been my third Mineral Grey F31 in a row (!) and I’m really hoping for something with a bit more colour this time.. Dream spec? Alpina Grün Metallic over tan.

I’m a detailer/PPF guy by trade, so having something in an exciting colour to park up and look back at would genuinely make ownership that bit more special.

I’ve just had rotator cuff surgery, so I’m out of action driving-wise for a while — but it does give me time to sort out some niggles on the 35d before a sale and also to move some cash around for a D3 that might hit the market in the next few months…

If anyone is considering a sale in the coming weeks, I’d really appreciate a DM.

And for inspiration purposes only, I’d love to see photos of your D3 Tourings 👌

Thanks! Jim

This is the car that was for sale around the time I bought mine. Can’t go wrong with the classic green over tan 👍🏼

Looks well in Red Davey! There's a white one available ATM but I just.need.colour. 🙏🏻

Oh come on now, Jonny.. haha - this was from Stark, wasn't it? Found it online a while back. I actually dropped their FB page a msg asking if they could "put me in contact with the owner" (I could see it had sold a few years back) "in case they were considering a sale!" — I didn't get a reply 🙈

An awesome motor mate. Have you done much to it since your purchase?

Yes, this was for sale with Stark. Stunning car, couldnt leave it there ;)
I haven't done much to it; there's not much you could do or would want to do. I put the Alpina badges into the seat backs and fitted a boot liner.

It mainly gets used for mountain biking and, as you can see, dog walking, and the yearly Xmas tree collection :D

It's done a few trips down to the south coast and up to Scotland. I'm contemplating taking it to Le Mans, but I have other cars for that ;)

I'm not sure if I could sell it, as what do you replace it with? But never say never, as they say ;)

I fitted OEM gold badges to go with the overall gold theme, and they complement the tan leather. Straightforward to do but fiddly, need to take the back of the seats off and get to the leather on the front. The scariest thing about doing this is having to pierce the leather and get them the right height and straight. No pics, I'm afraid, I'll see if I can take some.
