Whats going on with the BMWCCGB

Post by Norrie » Tue May 07, 2024 9:17 pm

Whilst I appreciate many are not members of the BMW Car Club GB Limited (The official club of BMW UK Ltd) a number of people are.

They were due to hold their National Event in June at Thruxton, it has been cancelled. The explanation was the person leading it on behalf of the club failed to organise it properly and certain policies and procedures were not in place so cancelled.

They were due to hold their Video participation AGM next week which has now been cancelled, evidently in favour of a face to face AGM at a date to be announced.

It doesnt exactly encourage one to reach for the "pay now membership button". Anyone any clue or insight as to what is going on?

Morning Norman,

I read the article in this straight six and really didn't sit comfortably with me. Being that the Sommerfest is one of the biggest BMWCC shows of the year for the blame to be put solely on one persons shoulders, in my opinion, is not on. It should never be a surprise when something is not going right so the rest of the board members should have been well aware, if they were not being fed information they should of gone looking for it. Nothing fails over night when organizing an event there must of been warning signs early on.
They made promises to me last year when I didn't renew bang on the renewal date. I was promised more involvement and collaboration between BMW events and Alpina, but then I hear issues with other events and people leaving Club positions.
I did consider volunteering to write articles for the BMWCC but then when I really looked at it there was only one BMWCC event I was due to attend this year and its been cancelled. So what relevant content would I have to share with the club. After that consideration I have moved my focus to Alpina events and some of the Petrolheadonism events.
I was also going to dial into the AGM to listen in and get a feel for what's going on but now as its face to face likely I wont have the time to travel just to listen in.
As it stands today I wont be renewing my members ship at the end of this year when its due.

Hi Mark

I 100% understand and accept your position. I couldnt see and guarantee or assurances currently that would encourage me to suggest to anyone that they become a member with or without an ALPINA.

People can claim its just a Club run by volunteers save for Two full time staff members in an office on and Industrial Estate in West Wales. However, it is a not for profit Limited Company and the Directors have a fiduciary responsibility . I agree one person cannot be held responsible and if fellow Directors do not know what is going on perhaps they should.
