Ultra Low Emission Zone ( ULEZ )

Post by B10BRW » Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:37 pm

Just had notification from Transport for London, that from 8/4/2019 they are introducing the new ULEZ system.

https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra- ... tcmp=26434

This means for vehicles that can not pass the new emission rules there will an extra £12.50 a day charge, this on top of the existing £11.50 congestion charge fee

This seems to affect all older Alpinas, my B10 V8S, will now cost me £24 a day :wall2.

Luckily I do not drive in London and certainly would not now use my Alpina.

Yet another nail in the classic car movements coffin :?

Khan is the worst London Mayor IMO - I hope he only lasts for one term. Only introduced this stealth tax because he developed asthma during his stays in London which obviously came from car pollution.

Nothing to do with Ken Livingstone increasing the time of red at traffic lights which causes more slow and stop/start traffic, or that these 'super highway cycle routes' have caused less space for moving vehicles and traffic has increased - especially on the Embankment where emergency vehicles can't even overtake.

However we will likely get stab to death in London before we die of car pollution. Also I thought Labour were here to help the many - what about people with older cars on poorer incomes who need to take their elderly parents or children to one of the specialist hospitals in London, this tax will affect them the most.

Sorry rant over

I drove into Blackfriars and parked in the basement of the company Sea Containers (now Mondrian hotel ) for 8 years in my Diesel cars. I recall being told by the Company car guy this was the most efficient.
We moved to St Thomas Street next to London Bridge station and the company paid the extortionate NCP car parking fees.

My point is those people who either need or want their car and are working for large organisations with millions of pounds turnover or as in my case 100's of millions of pounds turnover, will not give a monkeys about Ali Khan's charges.

It hurts the poor person who has to get up at 4 am and can only afford an old car, not sure London transport is that safe or even running for some.

Lets hope Mr Khan walks everywhere?
