Battery charging/conditioning
Battery charging/conditioning
Hi All
It's nearly time to SORN my car for the winter months. I've just received my new CTEK MXS 5.0 charger. I understand that these can be used for trickle charging the battery whilst the car is stored for long periods. I've looked in the manual and it isn't very clear as to which mode i need to select for looking after the battery whilst the car is in the garage. Does anyone have one of these units? If so, what mode are you using to keep your battery conditioned whilst the car is off the road?? Many thanks.

I've got the MSX 7 but you should just need to leave it on 'normal' (on the MSX 5, I think that's the car symbol) - once it's fully charged it will then switch to a pulse mode where it monitors the battery and tops it up whenever it drops below (something like) 90%
There is a 'cold weather' mode (snowflake) but I believe that you only need to select that if you're charging a more depleted battery in temperatures <5C

Depends what battery type you have, use the mode button to show car or AGM
Connect then forget, after fully charging it goes into 8 a maintenance cycle

This. You can safely scroll through them whilst it's connected to the battery. AGM is for 'Optima or Odyssey' battery types only.Bri-E wrote:Depends what battery type you have, use the mode button to show car or AGM

Once a year at least, run the 'recon'. Do not just rely on the trickle to keep the battery healthy as the plates deteriorate and the 'recon' desulphates them.
Ditto to WINNE1; running 2 here. Brilliant. Resurrected a couple of 'dead' BMW batteries and returned to unlimited use using 'recon'.
