Hi all. Does anyone (I'm sure CB will) know anything about E60 B5 #060?
Many thanks, Music.

The owner is on some of the FB groups. I don’t think it’s seen much use recently though.

Thanks CB. Had a look on FB but no luck. (Soz 'bout that one).

Little use agreed. 136k April '14, 156k today. Prior use from Sept '05 ave. 17k. MOT gap June '18 to Jan '21. Advisories suggest basic minimum done of late, eg. new budget tyres front Delinte Thunder D7 245 40 19 98w XL @ £54.50 + p&p and rear Hifly HBOS Challenger 275 35 19 100W XL @ £76.02 "delivered to your home" from asdatyres. Why would anyone put a mix of max 168mph rated tyres on a 195mph car? Drives ok (why wouldn't it at street speeds?), generally tidy, sunroof and reasonable earlier history but no evidence of supercharger service/re-con and it's excluded from warranty. Quite tempted all the same. What would you price it at? Thanks, music.

Previous Owner's posts here:
https://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/100897-m ... a-b5-no60/
viewtopic.php?t=17573

Previous sale thread here: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=21327

Current Owner: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1483293 ... 642335389/

Price-wise, in the last 18mths, there have been 9 other B5's I've seen advertised. Excluding those <80k miles, there were 6 and the average asking price was £15k (£8.5k-£25k) and 112k miles (80-200k). It is probably therefore priced at the top end.

Thank you very much, CB. What an asset to the Register you are. Previous sale comments also most helpful, especially CharlesM and bal (wheels still look good, btw).

Out of interest: Mileage at July '17 MOT was 154,050 with an advisory on front discs. Passed again in June '18 at 154,109 with same advisory for front discs + pads all round, rear tyres and oil leak (not excessive but didn't say where from). Fail in January '21 at 156,156 on bulging front tyre and rear tyres still not done. Passed 5 days later at 156,189 with a clean certificate. Current mileage 156,636. New tyres all round as posted + new discs/pads.

No sign of new dampers or s/c service in docs since 2017 so I presume them to be original. Didn't see any paperwork for drop links, various bushes, etc. As it's stood around a lot this last four years I would expect there's some replacement work to come on the rubbery bits (+ a set of decent tyres) and that won't be warranty work. As I said, s/c isn't covered and, as the car needs using not tucking away, I'm tending to mirror CharlesM's thoughts of four years ago. If it could become a bit of money pit back then then same still applies but probably more so. Dealer has been very helpful and I'd certainly like one before some Gov decree outlaws them, but ......
Nnngggg!

As you have said, the lack of use will undoubtedly mean there's a good chunk of replacement parts going to be required once it is pressed into service, in addition to the things already apparent.

I know this one has a CAT S marker but depending on what your intentions are long term and an inspection of the repairs, it might be worth considering B5S #452 which isn't too far from you in Cheshire.

Thanks CB. (Hope you don't mind CB, btw).

I spotted that one and emailed Jill last night with a few questions. No reply yet but you've already answered two of them! Lol. Cat S and #452. What else can you tell me?

My intentions long term are to enjoy driving something special, whatever it is, for as long as and while I still can. Alternative to a B5 I've been looking at E55 AMG's and for the right face lift Maserati 4200 Coupe (it's the only way I'll get to run a Ferrari V8 with F1 gearbox) and similarly aged, mainly analogue, pokey, noisy, visceral, wolves in cashmere. Style on the outside and substance underneath. Something that holds my interest and not too big.

I don't plan on keeping any of them for any great length of time - one will hopefully fund the next - and I accept that acquisition costs v. running costs are the wrong way round. The right ones are great value for money and that's why previous ownership values and service history are so important to me in keeping the wheels turning and for when I come to move them on. I only do around 4,000 mpa total these days so spreading the cost of high ticket jobs over 15,000 mpa isn't on. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Hmm. Still rueing the day I let Steve Bone's B5S slip through my fingers. Any news of it?

Funnily enough I was speaking to the owner of Steve's old B5S today, his premises are just round the corner from me.
I enquired after the car and in his words "it is all fixed now" as I believe quite a lot of work had to be done.
He doesn't like the fact that everyone knows how much he paid for it, around 12K. :think. He was saying he is not using it and will sell.
If you are interested he trades as:

I would take a specialist along

Probably “It is all fixed, for now” might be more apt knowing the history!

I believe according to Mr S W Bone he sold the car to a Mr Kahn. Not sure if he is the dealer?

Oops. Didn't mean to stir anything. Just curious.

B10BRW. Thanks for the contact numbers and advice re specialist. Lol.

Steve had assured me there was nothing wrong with the car, all fit to go, transferrable warranties, etc., although his fast Geordie accent and phone calls/emails gone midnight may well have beaten me at the time. Steve himself advertised it at minimum £12,000 (I think) and did mention a buyer coming hot to trot from Burgess Hill as a gee up for me to commit (don't know if dealer or privateer) so I don't know why the buyer is now miffed at peeps on here knowing what he paid for it. I guess it was cheap for a reason and maybe I got a lucky miss.

Phil. "Probably “It is all fixed, for now” might be more apt knowing the history!" So what did it need? PM me with your recollections, eh?

Norrie. No idea about a Mr Khan. Oh how my curious little throw away comment can turn into a web of intrigue.

Any other suggestions, anyone, as to the next itch for me to scratch?

Not sure how you can really be upset that people know how much a car was advertised for sale for, it's public information after all.

There's another B5 for sale on FB marketplace, based on age, mileage and colours, it looks like #059: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 364780913/

I know Stephen Bone very well. He called me on the day after the car was sold. He explained to me at a gent from "your neck of the woods", had paid a 200 pounds deposit and was coming by train to Consett. BTW my neck of the woods is Horsham West Sussex. I understand the man arrived and tried to reduce the price. It is alleged he was offered his deposit back and a lift to the station. The purchaser accepted the car and was last seen driving it South.

Now Mr Bone is not car dealer, not a trader, not a mechanic or technician, he does not own a garage or sell cars for a living. He personally told me he sold it for 12K. The purchase was a case of "buyer beware". The car had recently had a new supercharger, he had some other work, if it had any other defects that was a risk for the purchaser.

The following day I spoke again to Mr Bone he alleges the purchaser had called him saying there was a problem with a tyre or wheel and he was at "Kwik fit"? Stephen he told me he had recently replaced all the tyres? Who knows what this alleged story was about? Stephen told him that the car was purchased at the was the end of the discussion.

I am unaware of any confidentially agreement that would prevent Stephen telling whoever he was disposed to, what the sale price was?
