Geneva Motorshow 2019
Geneva Motorshow 2019
I am considering going to this event in March. Anyone been before and tips or advice would be well received. Has anyone driven to it?

Hi,
The first tip I have would be to go during the week and not the weekend. I went on a Saturday the first time and the whole site was packed. The next time was on a Tuesday there were significantly less people. I was able to visit the Alpina stand and more cars were available to sit in like Porsche's, Range Rovers etc on the Tuesday.
If you have time Geneva is a nice city to visit and Chamonix is a nice drive for a day out from Geneva. The show is also easy for a day trip by plane as its walking distance from the airport terminal with multiple morning/evening flights from the London airports.
Its a good day out and there always lots of premieres and you'll see some weird and wonderful stuff. I've flown both times so I cant comment about driving.

Re: Geneva Motorshow 2019
Been a few years ago, it was great and the Alpina stand is very welcoming and calm when the rest of the show gets busy which will be Friday and Saturday.Norrie wrote:I am considering going to this event in March. Anyone been before and tips or advice would be well received. Has anyone driven to it?
Thursday was the quietest day for looking at everything if you want a more relaxing stroll.
Geneva is expensive for ale, food...er everything.
Just a note also would be that Jaguar Land Rover, Ford & Volvo all plan to skip the 2019 Geneva motor show so you wont see anything from them this year! Either they have nothing new to show or they are in the Sh**!
Transport was good.
Well worth a long weekend away before the summer and some fantastic autos.
Have fun Norrie!

Thanks for those who responded thus far, I think mid week suits me fine. I thought I would probably drive then stay 50-60 miles away the night before and do the same in reverse.

I go most years, going this year on the 12th.
Alpina are very hospitable, nice to sit down enjoy their wine and rest your aching feet
Normally do it in a day, this year BA from Gatwick @ 0635 return @ 1840, a lot easier and cheaper than driving, especially as you need winter tyres to drive in Switzerland.
Once you arrive at Geneva Airport the show is only 5 minutes walk away, under cover.

after some consideration and the obstacles of driving there, permits, snow chains, winter tyres etc. I have decided I dont want to go so much as to get up at silly oclock for a flight. Giving it a "more trouble than it's worth" certificate for me personally.

I've been a few times and always enjoyed it.
As has been mentioned above it's much better avoiding the weekend when it gets too crowded.
If driving down be aware then winter tyres are essential and you'll need to get a Swiss motorway vignette.
Hotels can get very expensive and hard to find at that time. I have always stayed across the border at the Holiday Inn on the French side (near Cern) - they even have a free shuttle bus to the Salon venue.
