Buyer beware! It is alleged that someone bought a B10 V8S from this company but subsequently found a host of problems with it. I am uncertain what they did about it.
The Consumer Protection Action now gives 6 months "fit for purpose". I would suggest anyone thinking of purchasing it or any other vehicle who is not an expert takes someone with them who is.

I've heard only good things about Old Colonel cars.

This V8S was for sale about a year ago - retrobmw, his uncle's I think. Looks like a lovely well loved example.

I have not heard bad things about Old Colonel, I only am aware of one car a V8S. I am also not saying do not buy it, I am just urging caution.

I was suggested to be today this car belonged to Abid's relative, apart from that I know nothing about it. However any car is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I have now spoken to the gentleman who was or is considering buying it. Fortunately he has had 2 V8S before, so he is fully aware of the features of the car.

Hi
I'm a new member and this is my first post. This does look like a really nice example. Is it fairly priced taking into consideration it's a classic BMW dealer? Is there anything specific that I should look out for? I'm assuming it's free from the common e39 rust issues. Any help much appreciated. Thanks Nickod

Hi and welcome,
Firstly I would never assume a car condition without actually seeing it myself. Normal used car buying rules apply, check everything works, check pads and discs (especially discs as these are hugely expensive). Check all the normal e39 rust weak points including under the side sill covers. They are asking a top top price for this car so i would expect it to be A1 condition.
Is it worth it? Only you can make that decision after seeing the car in person.
For what it’s worth having owned and sold a lot lower mileage V8s myself this is about £4K to much but it maybe like a brand new car and without seeing the car in person I can only guess.

You might talk to SPA69 (Simon) about Old Colonel cars, he went with someone who previously purchased a V8S from there.

Apart from the items Phil mentioned you would also have to look out for Radiator and heating problems, if it has not had a new rad it will soon, along with the hoses.
Pixel failure in the instrument binnacle is also an E39 problem.
Around that mileage the front springs and shockers are getting tired, see if it sits and rides properly, again being Alpina specific not a cheap fix.

I would disagree with the valuation, the ex Japan one is very overvalued.
The V8S Phil sold was some while ago, prices have firmed up since.
Also about supply and demand from only 42 produced, some have been written off and at least one converted to LPG.

Who would have thought not that long ago you would have to pay 35k plus for a B10 Bi turbo and 40K plus for a B8.

As I mentioned it is only a personal opinion on price and as stated before, a car is only worth what someone will pay for it. For me it maybe one price which maybe more or less than another prospective purchaser.
It has been for sale for over a month and hasn’t flown out the show room. It is not a good time of year to be selling a car so a better deal maybe possible after a friendly haggle.
I do like the interior although some rhombs in the seatbacks would of been nice to see.

Hi Nickod

welcome to the forum and a great choice of car your looking at, I looked at this car when it was parked next to mine at Gaydon a couple of years ago and the then owner wanted £17,500 for the car, we gave it a good look around and thought it should be at £15000, the bodywork needed a good polish and some of the paint areas on the bumpers and roof were looking a bit suspect,
by the look of the current photos , it looks like its had a polish ,but obviously cant see the detail in the bumpers, as its a 15/16 year old e39 ,look carefully at the sill ends for rust as this Is a tell tale sign of things to come, as others have said, look at how hot it gets, listen to the engine and definitely look at the front discs and pads as your looking at £2500 plus Labour from BMW , that aside they are super stealthy saloons and great fun to drive
