I had forgotten how tedious/annoying the quest for insurance was for Alpinas. As I like wasting time I tried a few online quote systems, of course they can't find my registration and when I look for the model it doesn't exist either!
So I try the personal approach and pop into my friendly local broker for a face to face chat. Cue much tutting and sucking through teeth and "sorry sir I can't find your car, I pass your details onto our modified and customs specialist"!
The next day I get a friendly chap call me and we once again go through the same dance of not finding the car but he says he will get back to me after some "research"
Finally the chap calls back, good news we can cover your car, I specify the model, he confirms its ok and it's a decent quote so I go ahead and buy the policy.
1 hour later I get the email with policy documents and certificate through to find my car has gained a seat and the model is incorrectly stated!
Back on the phone to the nice chap today, he apologises and asks what the difference is between what is on the policy an what car I have. After a brief model history lesson he promises to sort it.
Success, an hour later I get an email through with all the correct model info.I think things are improving as I saw lots of Alpina models on the database for quote sites, just not mine!
All part of Alpina ownership of course so I will better prepared come renewal time.
My car is a B6s, the "s" part was stumping everyone. The successful insurance company in the end was A-plan.

Sounds like you were sent right round the houses there. Can give a thumbs up for A-Plan here, was recommended them by an ex-owner and they've so far been easy to deal with.

Bizarre. I have been insured with LV for a number of years, called them up,before buying the B6, they knew immediately what it was and i was very pleasantly surprised at the reasonableness of the quote, which i duly took up. It seemed nothing out of the ordinary to them.

The B6 was not a problem, but a B6s was as this is not on the main database most companies use. I either gambled with it being registered as a 2008 B6 or be more persistent and get the "s" recognised.
I didn't fancy my chances arguing the toss if I had to claim and they expected to see a B6 only to find I had a B6s, any excuse to payout they will jump at in my experience so I like to not give them any wriggle room over something like this.

Hi,
I appreciate that you have gone with A-Plan insurance so no problem but could I just check for my records did you try us for insurance? If you did were were able to find the vehicle etc and did we actually give you a price?
