Looking for a B5 - info on #327?

Post by b10liquid » Mon Jul 13, 2015 8:46 pm

Hi all

I'm on the lookout for a B5 and as usual, examples are a little sparse and priced unevenly.

I found #327 for sale and seem to remember the owner was a member here but I can't find any info. The plate is B5 BMW. Can anyone shed any light on it?

The owner previous to him has some details on the register which is interesting.
The car was offered for sale in 2013 with #70k on the clock for £16,500 and it's currently up for sale with just under 100k on the clock for £17,000 which is a little ambitious.

There's another example in Oxford for £22k from a dealer that appears to deal with people who struggle with credit - not a good sign, one in Birmingham which also has patchy info for £20k and there's a 55 plate up for £9k.

The 55 plate you mention is that mullered B5 from London. That must be so trashed to be up for 9k. It's worth more than that in parts.

I do know the owner. I can put you in contact with him.

It has 130k on it which will no doubt affect residuals. I'm not looking at getting into a basket case. Thanks anyway.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear.

I know the owner of #327...the silver one with B5 BMW on the plate.

I don't know the owner of the battered one...and yes that would be a basket case!

Ah, I see. That would be Richard, I take it?

To be honest, I'm intrigued as to it's history up to when it changed hands in 2013 and as to why a car that sold for a maximum £16.5k (as advertised) has gained 30k miles since its last sale two years ago and the asking price is more - notwithstanding that the original asking price this time around was £23k, just a few weeks ago.

In principle, it's a nice looking car and I've not seen it in the flesh yet, but given the age and mileage (the dealer couldn't advise of whether the charger had been replaced, either), I'd expect it to be closer to £14k - unless I'm missing something.

Hi, yes it's Richard.

I can't answer those questions personally.

I know that when it was advertised originally it was with the plate...I was under the impression that the plate is extra on the 17k price now.

I don't think it'll go for 14k. There was a period a year or two ago when a high mileage B5 might go for that, but they were never examples like this one and I haven't seen any that cheap for a long time. But good luck in your search.

Cheers

Chris

Rang the dealer advertising this one and it is a cat D, they are still waiting for parts and have apparently spent £4k on parts already.
