Any one know about B3S convertible #3?

Post by fstorm » Mon Jul 07, 2014 9:01 pm

Hi,
I'm looking at an e46 B3S #3. It looks like it has had plenty service history etc. Interesting thing is that it has had a new head gasket and camshaft in June 2012 fitted by a company called Grosvenor based in Reading.

Any one know any more about the car ? Apparently it was owned by a boxer previously.

Cheers

Hi there
If this is blue I think it was privately advertised on gumtree earlier in the year in reading.
Despite phoning and emailing the contact details I never managed to speak to the seller.
If I remember correctly it was advertised for £4.5k with some slight damage.
Next time I noticed the car was for sale at a dealer in Windsor for a lot more money
Sorry I cannot be of more help
Martin

Hi Martin,
thanks for the information - do you remember what sort of damage the car had ? Was it bodywork or mechanical ?

Hi,

I am no expert but the 3.4 engine in the B3S is prone to head gasket wear. Going by the posts here from owners, it seems to be around the 80,000 mile mark. As long as the work has been properly carried out, this should be viewed as a big plus for #3. One of the mods here, Charles, has had several head gaskets done on his B3S Touring and budgets for this as routine maintenance.

The damage was bodywork, bumper and possible wing, i think front but not 100% sure, advert has disappeared off gumtree, no doubt too old now

That's the one! In fact I am approaching the point when I have to replace it again - for the third time!!!

... and I use Grosvenor myself for various things on the B3S, so the work will have been done properly.

Hi Hap,
thanks for that, not sure about the aubergine exterior. Do agree it looks like a well kept example.

This is #3

The fact it had recent head gasket, valve work done by a known indy was one of the main attractions, that and the price.
