This has gone straight to a sold status - must have had an offer before it went to auction? Sold for £61,640.

I wasn't a million miles out on the price, someone wanted a B5 very badly! Hope it gets cared for, enjoyed & cherished.

Just seen this it’s sold as well. Gutted I didn’t realise you can do a deal prior to going to auction.

Never mind wasn’t to be.

That’s no fun at all!! Was looking forward to watching that pass me by. Looks about the right price I suppose. I’m guessing the buyer had to pay a little over what the owner expected to take it off. Maybe. Can’t have been Lovett as they would have been low balling. Interesting to see if it pops up at a dealer though at late 60’s.

Hi all,

I have just bought the green B5 from the Collecting Cars site, so thought I should join the register and was (pleasantly) surprised to see this topic!

I am a private buyer, so it won’t be appearing with a dealer any time soon. For those interested in the mechanics of the CC process, I have bought and sold a couple of cars with them before and one of their team knew I was after a B5 as my day to day car, so contacted me a couple of weeks ago when they were lining this one up. The deal was done in principle before it hit their website, but I guess they like to show the cars they have sold on there to drum up interest. The price shown as the sold price includes the CC fees.

The seller is the first owner and seems a lovely man, and the car comes with lots of paperwork and has been regularly main dealer serviced (last service was a week ago), so I am confident in the mechanical condition.

The paint looks dreadful in the photos, like it’s been washed with a brick, so it’s being picked up this week and taken straight to my local detailer / paint folk to be machine polished, with front end ppf and ceramic coating to hopefully stop that happening again. Hopefully I will get my hands on it on a couple of weeks once that’s done and it's shiny again.

I’ve owned a couple of BMWs over the years - a 330d Touring, an e46 M3 and an M4 but always fancied an Alpina, so I’m very excited about this.

I have joined the register here to learn more about them so look forward to doing so.

Matt

Congratulations Matt, that's a wonderful car! They look so good in Alpina Green.

As others have said, a bit of paint correction and it will look even better. You will love it as a daily driver....

Congratulations Matt.
I'm sure once detailed she will be looking pristine once more. As a B5 Touring daily driver for the best part of 4 years I'd say you've acquired one of the most versatile, competent, and capable supercar estates of all time.
The one bit of advise I would offer is: PPF the nose and bonnet. I missed out on doing so and after 70k miles the front of the car makes me weep, chipped, scuffed and road rashed.
The B5 is a true masterpiece of engineering, enjoy.

Thanks for all of the replies, I will definitely share some ‘after’ pictures once the paint guys have worked their magic on it. It’s being collected tomorrow to be delivered to them, so they will assess what’s needed to make it look it’s best again by the end of the week.

The car has done about 36K miles so has definitely got some front end rash. We may repaint the front bumper (and possibly bonnet) as there’s not a lot of point in applying ppf over chips. We will probably refurbish the wheels to restore their shine too.

Then at some point I will get to drive it! I’m very excited about that, all of the reviews are fantastic and I’m a sucker for a fast estate 😎

Well done Matt!! Looks like a lovely car. Interesting to hear how you managed to get your hands on it too. Nice that it didn’t go to a dealer. What a daily car 💭

Popped in to see the B5 for the first time today. It was up on axle stands as the wheels were being refurbished, and the detailer was only part way through the first stage of paint correction, but the panels they have done have transformed the paint so I’m very optimistic about how lovely it will look by the time they have finished working their magic. At some point I will work out how to upload photographs here and will try to share a before and after. The Alpina Green is a lovely colour 😊
