Lovely car. Now for sale at Bramley.

@ JCC, what did you replace it with?
It’s a story too long and depressing for an entire series of Jackanory, but coincidentally I collected an “interim” S6 Avant V8 yesterday. I will put a couple of pics under ‘My Car’ so as not to pollute here.
An immaculate 8 year old 50k miles woofly V8 estate for the same cost as the depreciation on #250 which I had to sell as it developed the same paint lacquer problem as #340 B5 touring suffered both before and after I bought that car. Both handled with staggering incompetence by Sytner Nottingham.
That is not a criticism of Alpina, they are magnificent cars, but of BMW warranty and in particular Sytner Nottingham.

Just seen it.

Big money for that sort of money I think I’d rather a B5 touring if I could. Stunning car either way.
I’m not so sure it is big money - although having decided to sell it quickly to avoid any lacquer peeling reappearing it’s up for a lot more than I sold it for!
it was £65 list plus £20k extras new - similar money to the equivalent B3 (touring) at the time (ordered Feb 2022). The B3 is now inflated to mid to late £90s new (with plenty of new ones to pick from at those prices..) As the M3 touring price bubble has well and truly popped I am not sure where this will leave these B3 tourings.
Special mention to the brand new D3 touring at £97k and D4 Gran Coupe at £95k - both have been listed on the Sytner website for months and I told them in both November and December that they are both petrol and not diesel but no one seems to care as they are still down as diesels.
The only LCI B5 touring I have seen recently was around a 23 plate and 10k fewer miles £105k then reduced to late £90s at Tier One in December so give or take £30k more which is a nice used XKR for the weekend!
I get the anti diesel thing for many, but for daily use the D5s (especially the LCI) is very smooth, very fast because of the torque and very economical. I drove a B3 touring for a few days whilst mine was being partially mended and whilst I loved the sharper handling, I didn’t particularly like the engine blare at the top end although it was mighty effective. The ride in isolation was good (19s) but there was no comparison to the D5S.
As neither the D5 or B5 will be replaced that should help residuals over time - I have spent a couple of months looking for a suitable alternative to mine and there isn’t anything at any price that (with plenty of options!) combines the interior quality, effortless performance, incredible ride quality and rarity.

Sale agreed yesterday on the Bramley website - it was only put up there on Saturday so two days isn’t bad.
It’s a wonderful car if there are no further paint issues but sadly I would be surprised if that turns out to be the case.
At least there are 15 months warranty left!
