E46 B3 3.3 #213 [Frag-Fest]

Post by Bob » Sat May 15, 2021 10:14 am

Think this is the car that was the original B3OAL. Slightly unconventional with the dekor stripes only on the bootlid.

It does look like saloon number 213, my old car, which when I sold it was on plate B3 OAL. I think the buyer must have sold the plate separately when he sold the car onwards.

When I had it, it still had the carbon fibre interior that the previous owner put in but I did sell it with the original wood trim so it obviously got put back in at some point. Looks like its also had the black grill, alpina lettering and rear decal put on at some point.

During my time BMW also did a warranty fix on the subframe on this one just in case this helps any potential buyers. It was always a good solid car for me so hopefully it finds a good home and gets some tlc.

Seller has confirmed it’s #213 and that it’d lost the plate before he acquired it.

B3OAL is on a B3S Cabrio these days.

No bids on the last auction, now on C&C at £4k. As sad as it is to say, but surely it's worth that in bits?

How sad. That was my first Alpina and gave me the love for the brand I have today.

This car should have never got to this stage.

The trouble is, there were a lot of B3 3.3's compared to the other generations. There were apparently 95 UK versions of the saloon, alone, so it'll take a while for them to drop to properly rare numbers.

I've got a list of 91 and of those:
- 25 have been dismantled, turned into track cars or had the engine replaced with a non-ALPINA unit,
- 5 exported
- 11 haven't had a valid MOT in at least 2yrs

- 24 have a valid MOT
- 28 I've lost track of current reg or never had it
- 4 others still to be ID'd

So there's probably still 60% or more of the saloons still around.

More great stats there. I'm actually quite surprised with how many have been dismantled.

I think it also shows that there is very little demand out there for these cars. However much we love them, the majority of the population have no idea what they are.
