Why does it have the paint removed from the vin's?
They originally had a clear sticker over top ...
Mine never did!
Interesting, I’m sure I’ve seen pics of cars with the sticker pealing off. Wonder how it ended up like that then? :think

Perhaps some one should let them know it's a 3.4l not a 3.3
3346cc, so nearer 3.3 than 3.4, so technically correct if that's their aim. Alpina were slightly inflating the badging :P

Damn good job this wasn't on the market 2 weeks ago or I'd have bought it. But then emotionally I'd probably not have been able to sell it again, so it would have been a stupid idea

I'm sure at least one of mine had a clear 'plastic' cover over the dual VIN, Bob.

E46 B3s (S3 ALP) on Collecting Cars

Post by Rav » Fri Jun 10, 2022 9:03 am

I am seriously interested in the E46 B3s estate for sale on Collecting Cars:

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/200 ... -s-touring

Do the forum know this car? I have noted that it is described as having the 3.3 engine, but the plaque on the top of the engine clearly states 3.4?

It would mean selling my B3 saloon and Boxster, but would mean that I am the load hauler again, whilst the wife gets to find her Aston or Bentley.Image

It sold for £13K last time Rav, so shouldn't be anywhere near that....

I have mislaid most of my Alpina pix due to a half-assed pc swap, but I found a very old one on my phone....I've sent it to Bob to post as I can't remember how to! B3SBiturbo #127 had the said plastic cover, and I'm 100% sure another did too. It probably explains why this B3s has the weirdly rusty VIN's

Here's the one on #320 - the Alpina VIN is on the top of the turret and it's partially obscured by the strut brace but you can clearly see the edge of the clear plastic strip over the VIN

my B3S touring has a plastic sticker over the vins as stated some chimp has peeled half of it off in the past. None of my other Alpinas have had this but this e46 is my newest one. I'll try and remember and take a picture of it

No need for humble pie, Ali, although the custard sounds good :drool . It always amused my engineering brain that Alpina rounded these engines up in badging terms, whereas the number should technically be rounded down as its below 3350cc. Anyone advertising them has a choice, and I'm sure one or more of the vehicle sales websites thingies lists them as 3.3 as standard
