Cheers, I have been pursuing some E39 M5’s & E46 M3’s, but values are really moving on and there seems to be numerous overpriced, very average examples.

I’ve always liked the E46 tourings, this popped up and it seems like a good example, I’m fully expecting it will need some expenditure. I plan to try and get it down to BMR for a post purchase inspection once I’ve collected it.

Cheers

Congratulations, that looks like a great buy at that money, fingers crossed BMR don’t find anything major.

Cheers all, I’ve spoken to the seller really nice chap. I’m going to get it serviced/inspected and go from there. I anticipate it might well need a head gasket at some point and possibly a suspension refresh. I might need some advice on the best options.

Charles from memory you are Oxford way? I spotted your car a few years ago. I’m not a million miles away in North Wiltshire, I do venture over that way from time to time so I’ll keep an eye out again.

Congratulations, this is a fantastic car. Any money spent will be well worth it in the long run - I like to see it as 'investing' in the car, makes me feel better about it!

Congratulations Chris!

I'd say you got a bit of a bargain given the mileage/condition/spec/provenance.

Looking forward to seeing it.

So I thought I would provide an update on my blind auction purchase.... I will start a separate thread when I pull together some progress photos. The collection went smoothly and I have done several hundred miles so far, which I have really enjoyed.

The car went to BMR for a post purchase inspection a few weeks ago, I also asked them to complete a compression test as a precautionary measure. I am quite glad I opted for this as unfortunately it picked up the early signs of HG failure between cylinders 4&5. Slightly disappointing, but not unexpected as it had no history of the HG being done, based on the current mileage it is at the upper end of the life expectancy. It is back with BMR next week for the work, along with a service, new high pressure power steering pipe, high pressure vanos hose, radiator top hose and some other minor bits too.

I am also working through addressing some minor cosmetic items, such as new wing mirror glass, removing the after market window tints, period correct Sytner number plates, fixing the rear armrest cup holders etc. I am also looking into a steering wheel re-trim, but my research has only thrown up MPM who can recreate the correct Alpina stitch.

Overall the car is very presentable for a 20 year old 116k mile E46.

It will probably need some brake pipes before the MOT in December and I plan to refresh the suspension and tidy up a few bits underneath over the winter, or perhaps in the Spring next year as I won't use it over the winter months.

Once I have factored in the required work I still don't think it was a bad purchase, I think it would have been a different story if I had paid £15k + for it.

I am looking forward to using it for the rest of the summer, I can only see me parting with it if the right E39 M5 pops up. It will certainly be a well sorted car when I do part with it!

Cheers.

Nice update, glad to hear you're enjoying it.

I really like this car and was tempted to bid but it would've taken all of my disposable cash to buy it leaving nothing for any work it needed of which it sounds like there certainly is some
