What sort of price do you think would be reasonable? He’s saying the lowest he could do would be around 6500 with no prep 😬 and yeah I’ll say hi later 🥰
What did you originally bid for it and how does this compare to the offer mentioned above?

This would be a good starting point as the difference is what you would have spent on the car anyway and depending on what any inspection might show up, this figure may well cover the costs involved to rectify anything if you cannot get a bigger discount.

Hope this helps

How much does it affect the value though ? I’m assuming that no member on here would buy it lol ?
Most folk seem to think a formal CAT marker would impact values by 15-25% but as this is unregistered anything from 0 to whatever visible issues you can detect. Based on the selection of D3 BT's currently on the market, those early builds in the 100-150k mile range are averaging £7.5-8.5k asking prices from what I've seen.

This particular car has had quite a lot of remedial works done by the last private keeper who was on the Facebook groups. He did a lot of servicing, replaced the timing chain, added the F3x BBK, refurb'd the wheels and added new suspension I think. At £6.5k it seems like a fair deal assuming you can't detect any major evidence of the repairs.

The ALPINA community is knowledgeable and the absolute numbers of cars sold in the UK is low to the point that it's easy to track individual vehicles (which is good and bad! ). That is to say, it can still be a good buy, just don't expect that if you come to sell later someone won't dig up the same info.

Oh and they are denying even having the car at all lol
Well, it was definitely advertised on their eBay account :liar

I actually bought this car yesterday, signed up to this site and found this post , I’ve got my money back , but does anyone know who repaired it ??
Welcome Alan, here you will find a wealth of knowledge and friendly help.

A couple of thoughts.

I brought a Cat D 330ci in 2009, still have it and not had an issue with it. It was stolen recovered so a bit different but people were steering clear of it but digging deeper saw it wasn't an issue and got it at a good price.

A way to get peace of mind on the D3 is get an independent assessment of the car and get a report. Not talking about the RAC/AA checks but a professional that specialises in accident damage. Such as

https://www.motorclaimguru.co.uk/arrang ... ur-vehicle
Or
http://legalandtechnical.co.uk/

Neither have used but MotorGuru got from another forum from a motoring expert.

If you want down the report route will give you some idea what u are getting into and maybe help with a fair price as valuations part of what The guru guys do.

Congratulations Alan and a proper welcome now you are an Alpina owner. Photos when u have it, we like photos 😀

FYI when buying from a trader you have certain rights but especially within the first 30 days of ownership.

“ Short-term right to reject
The 2015 Consumer Rights Act covers the purchase of goods, digital content and services - including new and used cars - from official dealers. It doesn't apply to private sales. It outlines the fact that vehicles must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. For cars purchased before 1 October 2015, the Sale of Goods Act still applies.

This Act gives you the statutory right to reject a new or used car (or anything else) within 30 days of purchase if your rights have been breached. This is called the short term 'right to reject'.”

All of the blurb is here
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/problems-w ... er-rights/#

You might already know this but surprising how many don’t when it comes to used cars. However, doing it isn’t easy and would probably be best supported with professional legal advice if thinking of going down this route.

Hopefully you not have an issue and just need normal TLC to keep it going.

Thankyou, I’m still not 100% an owner yet there is still 3 inspections to get past first 🙄 I had a thought while I was in the bath earlier when I looked at it on Monday the rear passenger door was harder than normal to open it’s either not fitted back on very well or something is twisted 🤦‍♂️ It’s so hard finding a well looked after car nowadays I do try and buy from club members on any car I own so the history is well documented but I saw this and I went all googley eyed and bought with my heart not my head 🤣 and thankyou for that info I did know that I have had to return quite a few cars now 😳 I have nicknamed my Missus Jonah she has the worst car luck in the world honestly 🤣

There are lots of cars out there that have had repairs by insurance that are uncategorised. They only get noted if un economic to repair and essentially written off.

The pictures posted at the start of the thread show two damaged enclosures, but don’t seem to indicated any structural damage to sill or roof.

The pictures on trader look good and the shut lines on both sides are even and consistent, it’s also been well painted as it’s been blended well. Let you eyes and hands make the decision, look at gap, presence of overspray on trim, and lacquer overspray, which you will feel in door jams. If this is all OK then it’s been done professionally and whilst not ideal, it is reflected in the discount.

It is always my preference to buy an undamaged car with original paint, but it’s nearly impossible. I bought a E92 M3 for BMW and there were a few marks on it and they decided to paint it rather than spend time doing rectification. This was all cosmetic and it too lots of effort to get the paint back to what I wanted.
I do like to buy unpainted too if I can , this one looks sooo good in the flesh too 🤦‍♂️ That’s what happens when you rush in lol

Right so an update for you all I have decided not to buy this car unfortunately, I remembered when I looked at it the first time the rear passenger door was stiff to open (really stiff ) which to me indicates that the b pillar must be very slightly out of shape as the door panel gaps are fine so the door is fitted correctly 😳 so unfortunately on this occasion I have passed but I am looking for more so may actually be joining the community soon 👍 thankyou all again for your advice it has been greatly appreciated 🥰

A disappointment for you but, thankfully, not an expensive one.

Your feedback also provides valuable information for others who might be interested in this particular car.

I'm sure the right one will be along soon for you and we will be welcoming you properly :D

Hopefully someone is as obtuse as myself and does the research first 🤣 there isn’t really any other Alpina’s for sale in my price range at the moment 😢 I’m going to have to get her a make do car for now 🤯 but if anyone is thinking of purchasing this car please get a full independent inspection first

There have been quite a few D3 BT's whose ads seem to have expired recently, but there is still a good selection around and I'm sure some of the others will reappear in due course. What are your criteria: just D3 BT's, budget, colour, options, bodystyles? I'll keep an eye out.

White will limit you quite a lot, there was only one D3 MT made in White (special order) or that only leaves BT's. These are the others I have seen recently. Nothing currently sub-£9k on the petrol side either.
