2015 F31 D3 #126

Post by MattOz » Wed May 29, 2019 9:15 pm

Hi All,

This was probably discussed pre- forum issue, but I popped in to see the car last week. Trying to understand why it's been for sale for over 6 months? Yes, the spec isn't brilliant, and the paint needs a good detail, but it seems fine apart from that. I'm moving towards being in a position to buy, and wondered if anyone else had a view on this particular D3?

Cheers
Matt

That’s normal for any Alpina as it a very small market for the cars. The one I am currently doing a deal on has been up for sale for 7 months. The b3 I bought had been on sale for 3 months. D3 3 months as well.

Have you got a link to the advert?

Here's the link.

https://www.cars2.co.uk/used-result/?id=500568&pc=1

The condition is consumate with the mileage. It's had a load of filling polish thrown over it, so looks better in the flesh than the pics. Spec wise, it's average, but overall seems ok. Needs a proper wheel refurb, as the powder coat job on the wheels isn't brilliant. I'm tempted, but other F31's have been and gone since this came on the market.

Spec looks decent to me. We buy any car value is22k if the dealer has had it in for 6 months they’re is room to negotiate on price. Do you know the reg?

I think the reg is FN65WVW. It comes up as a petrol on some sites, but diesel on MOT history check. Only caught a brief glimpse of the plate, but think it's that one. I did the same WBAC check too. :)

#002 is also for sale on eBay. Better spec, but 20 months older (non-LCI) and 3 additional owners over #126. Does one go for spec over age?

I’d go for spec.

Have these been done in the car Advisories

Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge )

Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge )

Windscreen damaged but not adversely affecting driver's view

Yes. New rear Michelins on the car and the screen looked ok to me. May well have been resin filled.

Hi,

If it helps your decision, I put a deposit on #002 and I am traveling up on Saturday to hopefully complete the deal and drive it back, all being well!

I did seriously consider #126, the spec is good (pro nav, surround view, privacy glass etc) and it is an LCI, but for me the colour combo wasn't my first choice, so the spec needed to be better to sway me. If it had a pan roof, 20's & HUD I probably would have bought it.

I agree the photos make the paint look terrible, but like you say nothing a good detail wouldn't sort out. I am genuinely surprised it hasn't sold, especially considering the amount of interest the trader selling #002 has apparently received.

Quick question, will you stick a warranty on it? I am in two minds whether to go for a BMW insured warranty for a year, as it is under 60k, or a Warranty Direct policy for 3 years at the same cost....

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Cheers.

Nice one! Hope it all pans out on Saturday. :)

I would probably look to put a warranty on it with BMW before the dreaded 60k mile cut off. I'll pay monthly. I'm used to paying for the warranty like this on my previous M cars, so hopefully it won't be as financially ruinous as them! I did look at the BMW insured warranty site, but unable to get a quote online for the Alpina. Will call them if I end up with the car.

Cheers, you have to call up BMW warranty and they have to quote manually as it is an Alpina. Sadly #002 lapsed extended warranty in March, so it is at the higher rate than the previous owner was paying. Apparently the warranty can only be transferred between owners at the lower rate if it hasn't lapsed and is a private sale. I was quoted £143 pm, that is a fully comp warranty with a £250 excess. Or £1450 per annum, but on the annual policy I will get stung at renewal as it will be over 60k.

The fact #002 is the first UK car is also a nice talking point.

 Think I crossed wires here, Matt's local to me and the car is near my in-laws hence the suggestion but if there is a market for me to take new car owners around the country to collect cars I'll give up my day job so long as I can borrow the cars !

Haha no worries at all! I did think it was very generous!

3:00am start for me today and I’m only halfway, I hope #002 is worth the journey!
