E93 2009 Silver B3 BiTurbo #157, 59K,Stolen/Recovered

Post by Bertroex » Wed Jan 18, 2017 8:31 pm

Hi all,

I was discussing Alpina's with my bessie mate and after he had driven mine, he was into the market for a good number of weeks. We came across a 2009 B3 Biturbo convertible switchtronic, with 59K, up near Glasgow in Scotland.

The advert went live on Autotrader and Pistonheads on 14/01/2016.

Seller was very accommodating and turned out a great guy, patiently responding to a lot of queries, but Simon decided not to go ahead with it for a number of personal reasons.

I felt really sorry for wasting his time, so I offered to write up a little post on the forum.

So, the facts.
Car was delivered by Sytner Leicester as B3 BT convertible #157, in Silver with black Dakota leather, alloy dashboard embellishments (instead of wood), 19 inch Dynamic wheels, DVD Sat Nav, heated Dakota sports seats, Logic 7 audio: in short, the usual B3 BiTurbo specification.

Here is a file photo of a silver E93 B3 on classic Alpina's, to give you an idea.

A V888 query with the DVLA provided copies of all the previous owners; the first being Sytner Group Nottingham.

The 3rd owner bought the car from Sytner Leicester with full service history and with all the paperwork.

As she fancied a white version, the car was covered -including the door jambs etc, with a 3M high quality vinyl, with the roof in a carbon fibre vinyl. The cost in august 2013 was £2348.

A Quick selection of its current condition:

The company who did the work sadly lost the photos of the wrapping during a computer crash without backup. The man who did the work remembered it well as was an iconic car and mentioned that the car paintwork was flawless before the wrapping occurred.

In October 2013, the then- Kent based 3rd owner had a house break- in, and the thieves stole the car with keys found in her hand bag. The car was recovered a few days later in Essex.

The Alpina was recovered with the following items noted:
The aero spoiler lip of the front bumper was broken,
1 kidney grille was split
The left front alloy was damaged as the thieves had a puncture, rummaged about for a spare wheels -which obviously wasn't there- and proceeded to drive along on the bare alloy thus braking it until they were "out of sight". The car was then abandoned.

The items missing were:
-The DVD of the Sat Nav
-the drivers overmat
-the N/S rear mat
-the V5C
-The service book

Thieves were suspected to have thrown away any evidence about the car as such. The 3rd owner insisted to have the car inspected by Sytners again, and a full report was prepared for the insurance company.

After a consultation, a full insurance payout was made to the 3rd owner.

The car was sold through Copart in March 2014 and bought by the current owner. Copart delivered the car to Scotland.

The current owner ordered a new key to have 2 keys, ordered a new alloy and have all the alloys powder coated. Full investigations and contact with the Police forces as well as the previous owners were made, to get further context on the car.

Since purchase, the car had:
A new Front alloy
An updated 2014 DVD for the Sat Nav
all alloys powdercoated
a 4 wheel alignment front and rear
a new front bumper, painted silver, wrapped in 3M vynil white by a reputable company called TLC in Stirling
a front bumper splitter painted in white, as the wrapping would not be to the cosmetic standard of the owner
BMW black overmats (not with the Alpina logo on the drivers and drivers side rear)

Work on the car done by http://www.kbmengineering.co.uk, a reputable race car specialist
49000 miles: Comprehensive service with spark plugs, all filters, all oils, front brake pads etc
49799miles: Full set of generation 2 roof seals to prevent water leaks at BMW Glasgow: cost £1004
56000 miles: Oil service, new rear brake pads, MOT

currently, therefore, the consumables stand at
Brake pads front: done 7000 Miles
Brake pads rear: done 4000 miles
Front Michelin Pilot sports: around 6mm
Rear Michelin Pilot sports: around 5mm
MOT is until 16/04/2017- no advisories

A video is available regarding the operation of the roof, and a video is available to show the general condition of the car.

Road tax is standing at £235 a year, and insurance is drivers dependant. I get on average 27.8mpg with my coupe, but driving according to the law and letting the torque do the pulling, I got 34.6mpg on 99Ron Vpower.
Try that in an "em free, innit."

In my opinion, being a meticulous B3 BT coupe owner, the car is in very good condition, owned by a passionate driver who is selling to get a ...Volvo XC90, due to an expanding family.

The car has a story, and currently no original service book, but it is also aggressively priced.

Great write up on a car with an interesting history.
What confused me was the Ad said " Finished in Alpina green metallic"
Perhaps I am missing something :(

you are spot on: the car was delivered in Titanium Silver and the mention of Alpina green in the advert is most likely an auto correct error.

cheers,
