E46 B3 3.3 #170 for sale again
Sorry but coming on here and telling people who likely have more experience than most of what constitutes 'normal' as far as nuances of the b3 box is concerned is a bit of an insult.
lots of newcomers use this forum to help inform their buying choices. i did the same and i consider myself something of an e46 geek. if people want to use the forum to pitch their cars thats fine but at the same time you have to expect to receive input from others especially if the car has such a richly documented history as yours does. double edged sword im afraid.
in any event, no offence or harm meant and apologies if it came across that way.

I actually do feel offence. Here's why. I said it appears normal, that isn't meant to offend or insult anyone, it's just my view. Had you come and driven this car in person and then disagree with my view then it's no bother at all. As it stands you're making a judgement from behind a keyboard and not from reality.rc944 wrote:Sorry but coming on here and telling people who likely have more experience than most of what constitutes 'normal' as far as nuances of the b3 box is concerned is a bit of an insult.

The transmission might actually need an oil change. It might not be this, but it's worth exploring before assuming the worst.
So yes, I may be relatively new here, definitely like this forum and not in the habit of falling out with people, especially those interested in a car like this. However, I certainly wouldn't keep repeating a potential negative to any forum members car without knowing full well this was actually a problem.

Hey thanks for sharing that Deeb I'm going to contact the garage, see how viewings are going. If it's not getting close to what I'd like I might just take it back and do what you've suggested.Deeb3_250 wrote:I had the same cattle grid symptoms uphill and slight lazy feeling in D but a gearbox filter and oil change cured it and the car feels brand new...torque for days would recommend it ...

So I phoned the dealer to today and he'd also noticed the vibration and taken the liberty to have his technician look at it.
The oil could only be described as black and most likely causing excess pressure. With this now changed, it's been driven eight or so miles up steep inclines and it hasn't exhibited any of the previous symptoms - so it seems to be cured.
Relieved and happy to hear it was a minor as opposed to a major job.

I'm not sure if a forum member bought this or not - but it is now sold. Apparently the buyer said this was the best of all the ones he'd seen.
Was a lovely car and luckily I'm still in the Alpina fold with a B10 bought from a forum member. Not as pretty, but it's been fastidiously maintained - at least mechanically.

Very interesting. I still feel guilty about selling it after all the work I did, but good to know there are people who appreciate it. Great to hear the gearbox gremlins got solved too.Alpinanewbie wrote:I'm not sure if a forum member bought this or not - but it is now sold. Thanks James, really appreciate the work you'd done. I couldn't get rid of the mark on the drivers door card which was apparently superglue from someone trying to unsuccessfully fix the sagging door trim.
But i was able to sort the trim, had a window regulator replaced. It was the first Alpina I have owned and now have a B10 E39, also bought from a forum member. Not quite as pretty but really is a fantastic car.

E46 B3 3.3 COUPE #170
This one is back up as a classified after a failed Collecting Cars auction that failed to reach reserve with a high bid of £8,100 last Sep-21.
Looks to've been with the same keeper since Alpinanewbie sold it back in 2014.
