B10 V8 2001 facelft - SOLD

Post by JudgeBaxter » Sun Feb 23, 2020 8:39 pm

How time flies...…

I put a "what's it worth" type post up about what I thought was only a year or so ago.....turns out it was almost 2.5 years ago!!

So I still have the old girl, but I really think the time has come for a new home for her....

Here is the blurb I put up back in Sept. 17 with a few updates....

…………………………….

The car is a 2001 facelift B10 V8 - with a late engine number with the improved head gasket and the much nicer 19" alloys.

Orient Blue metallic with silver nappa leather piped in dark blue and the usual wood trim albeit in a 'subtler/darker than others I've seen' hue.

130k miles (129,8xx), full history, all books, I'm the 5th owner and purchased the car in April 2010. According to the paperwork it was sold as used approved with 2 years extended warranty in April 2004.

Mechanically the car is excellent and has had whatever it's ever needed as it has effectively been my daily driver over the years. Things like MAF, cooling system, various bushes/arms, full proper gearbox service, brake lines over the rear subframe, rocker cover gaskets and the associated breather valve...... have all been replaced/sorted/overhauled over the years by quality independents such as CPC, Munich Motors etc. Has always had positive feedback as to what an up together and lovely example it is.

Cosmetically, very clean and tidy - I have had the boot spoiler rust issue sorted previously, but there are some things that will need to be kept an eye on and/or sorted e.g a couple of the arches have just started to blister very slightly, there is a little patch starting on the driver side sill and the front end and spoiler have chips as you would expect from car of this age and mileage.

I have a written quote to sort all of the above and paint the front end/bonnet from a very good (but not particularly cheap) bodyshop for £1500 hundred quid to sort all these issues....I also got a verbal quote from a smaller local outfit but with equally a good reputation for £1K...so extrapolate what you will from those figures as to how "bad" the cosmetic bits are that could do with being sorted.

Wheels are in nice/OK condition, but have light kerbing and ideally need a refurb if truth be told, so to do the job properly from a decent refurbisher, with new valves and centre badges....would probably be another £5/550 on top, having said that I've had and seen very good jobs done by the likes of BJV Engineering for about £250...so again, make of that what you will.

Just had an MOT earlier this month with 2 x Goodyear Eagle Asymmetrics fitted on the rear - fronts are matching with about 4.5/5mm left
Reg. no. is B10 JGF if you want to check the MOT history - reg will stay on the car.

About 18 months ago she had the front drag link replaced along with both tie rods, new front discs and pads and brake fluid and a new starter motor.

The car hasn't needed anything since other than the rear tyres for the MOT. (which weren't actually dead, but were getting there and would have been an advisory on the MOT if not changed).

It is however now due a service, due to time elapsed rather than mileage (last service was 9k miles ago and was an oil service....previous 3 services were 2 x Inspection 2's and an Inspection 1)

Timing Chain and tensioner have never been touched in my ownership, or in previous ownership to the best of my knowledge. The engine is beautifully quiet and smooth on stone cold start etc. and I'm happy to do a video etc. if someone wants to look/listen beforehand if they are travelling from a distance, but my rationale is quite simply that if it needed doing it would be done, but it doesn't, so I haven't. And if, god forbid, it started to get even slightly noisy....then a new tensioner usually alleviates the problem for at least another 10/15K miles...which in real world terms could/would be years of motoring......but again, make of it what you will.

Anyway, I'm waffling on, so time to cut to the chase....

Back in Sept. 2017, when I put my what's it worth post up, I reckoned between £8/9K was sensible for the car. It's VERY hard to get any real world sense of what these cars are selling for, but certainly asking prices have firmed up somewhat.....

I personally think she is still worth at least that much, perhaps even more - even allowing for the "hitlist" of things you might want to get sorted. Having said that, there is literally nothing stopping you jumping in and enjoying the old girl over the coming summer months and working through the above items as and when time or funds allow.

I have loved and do love this car, but I won't be giving it away....BUT....if someone sensible comes along and wants to give the car a new home and the care she deserves, then is would be fair to say there is a SIGNIFICANT (i.e. 4 figures) amount of latitude on a £9K-ish guide price.

If you want to buy her to "do her up" and sell on for a profit...fair enough, as long as you do it properly and with the respect she deserves. I think there is a £12K to £14K car here - the owners are low and the provenance is strong (imo) and it is a late facelift V8 in a strong colour combo.

My only reason for sale is lack of use, but more importantly...lack of time to use. I used to run 5 or 6 cars until a few years ago, but health issues with both myself and my father (advanced dementia) just mean that I will not realistically get around to getting through the "jobs" to do list, more through not having the time to sort them than anything to do with funds or the desire to sort them.....hard to explain, but if anyone has been through anything similar in there late forties...then you will understand how your priorities shift.

Obviously pictures sell a car, so I will dig her out from the garage and get some pics up next weekend.
If anyone wants to make contact beforehand, then drop me a PM with your number.
BUT....in the nicest possible way.....any PMs with "what's your best/lowest price or "will £XXXX buy it mate?" will be ignored, equally if you send me your number and that's the first question you ask when we speak...then again, it will be a short conversation....

There is a deal to be had here I think, and I will work with any genuinely interested party to give them all the info they need, but any negotiations will be done face to face when someone comes to view the car.

I'll leave it on here and classic car for a couple of weeks - need to get the pics sorted afterall, but will then try cutters and pistonheads etc, before finally the dreaded Ebay…if she is going to go, then I'd ideally like it to happen in the next 2 to 3 months...

I'm based in North Hampshire, between Winchester and Newbury.

Cheers,

David

Hello David, you have an excellent car. I reread all your posts, but unfortunately I could not find information. Is your car right-hand drive? I apologize for this maybe stupid question.

Evening guys - I don't get on here very often, so apologies for lack of update and photo's.

Yes the car is RHD.

I have lots of photo's now, so WhatsApp is probably easier.

If anyone is interested, please drop me a text or WhatsApp message on 07832 244100 and I'll send over what I have - not very arty, but they are very honest.

The car is sat tucked up under dust sheets and apart from a couple of trips round the block and being started every few weeks, she hasn't turned a wheel since her MOT in February.

I have now got a complete service kit as well i.e. 8 litres of the correct spec Castrol oil, the correct NKG plugs, correct Mahle pollen filters and Mann oil and air filters, so everything for a complete inspection service.....just hadn't got around to getting it booked in to get done, but these can come with the car, along with brand new oem spec ATE rear discs, Pagid rear pads and wear sensor. She's even got a full tank of Optimax!

I hadn't planned on doing anything with her until spring other than starting her and a spin round the block every few weeks, but if someone is seriously interested, I would let the car go to a good home for a keen price.

These very late B10's (09/2000 to 02/2002) were different enough to have there own entry into Alpina's own archive - whether there are any major mechanical differences I'm not sure and it's probably mostly software tweaks, but these late facelift cars are pretty close to a V8s in performance terms according to Alpina?

https://www.alpina-automobiles.co.uk/en ... eries-e39/

There are some things to do as per my description, but as one of the very last facelift B10 V8's, it will be a bargain for someone at the money I'm prepared to take.

Serious interest only please - I am extremely busy, as I'm sure everyone is, so any messages along the lines of "what's my best price/lowest I will take" will be ignored. The info is in my description, I will of course listen to offers when someone is stood in front me having taken the time to come and view, but haggling in advance over text/WhatsApp with randoms who can't/won't even pick up the phone, just isn't something I'm going to get into again, especially after the fiasco I had selling my E30 M3 a couple of years ago...

Apologies if that sounds blunt, but I'd sooner keep her than waste my time tapping at my phone for hours...

Sorry to hear that Avtar - I've been enjoying your search for a B5/B7/B10. Fingers crossed you get sorted soon and another Alpina isn't too far off....

My car is still available if anyone is interested.

I took her out of storage a few weeks back, she had a fresh MOT (which she flew through) and I asked the specialist to take a look underneath the sill covers to see what things where like there as it's been years since they last came off.

Overall they were in much better condition than most E39's of this age, but all needed some welding/plating repairs and that has been fully sorted now in all 4 corners along with a thorough clean up and prevention treatment of the surrounding areas. There are photo's, a short video and a large bill to support all this work being done!

I was going to get the car serviced also, but again, after having the specialist go through it, he said there was genuinely no need to as the plugs and filters were all still clean, the oil still golden etc. etc. so the complete service kit with all the oem spec parts is still available, along with the new rear discs/pads/sensors, but I can also easily arrange to have this done for someone if it is a deal breaker - but someone may prefer to do this themselves perhaps or have their own independent do the work as and when it is needed.

I'm looking for about £10K now given the very recent large expense and although a few cosmetics are still needed here and there to make her mint, overall she is a great solid example, with excellent provenance, and again, is one of the last B10 V8's before the V8S came along.

She is number 1049 and IS on the register previously by another owner, albeit with the colour incorrectly stated - she is Orient Blue Metallic to confirm.

Not sure if Caesar Bob or similar would be able to dig up any old posts from a previous owner on here??

I'm keen she finds a good home but I really need the space now rather than the money, so if a genuine enthusiast comes along and wants the car, then I am sure we can work something out.

I have fresh pictures also which I'll try and get uploaded but the car WILL now be going on other mainstream sites over the next few days as well.

Cheers all,

David.

PS - one of the control arms - can't remember which exactly, but it was a £140 quid Lemforder one, would have been an advisory as it had some play and some dirt ingress into the rubber seal - that was replaced with a new one also and is on the bill....

Cheers,

Dave.
