Stunning D5 Touring with Feynlab

Post by rblvjenkins » Sun Feb 09, 2020 4:10 pm

Whole thread moved to more appropriate section now the car is for sale - mods

Just had this Feynlab coating done on my D5. 60 hours of preparation! Astonishing result on a 2012 67,000 mile car!

Hi - just to say I will be selling this car on the website Collecting Cars in a few weeks (unless of course someone makes me a good offer beforehand!). It’s done 69,000 miles and is currently getting a further valet with Crystal Clear, and then will be sold in a few weeks once lockdown in Wales ends. PM me if interested, or better still email at rblvjenkins@icloud.com. Only selling as I don’t need the luggage capacity of the Touring any more so I’m replacing with an S63AMG Cabriolet. I don't have garage space for both cars sadly.

I’d say it’s the very best D5 Touring around.

Looks good, but I’m sure the photos don’t do the finish justice after all that prep time. Must be better than original.
Not heard of Feynlab before.

You’re quite right the photos don’t do the finish justice! If you try the link below (also now added to initial post) you should see a 55 second video of the car. If link doesn’t work just search Instagram for Crystal Clear Auto Detailing and you can see it there - I only got the car back from them last week so it’s towards the top of their page...

Feynlab are American. Looking at their website it doesn't show any accredited UK installers, just a distributor based in Oxford.
They have different levels of nanotech coatings, some of which only certified installers can use.

There's a detailer near me that is tempting me once my Alpina has had a paint job. Pricey though, but the Touring does look good and the washing will be so much easier.

Hi Toasey
The place that did my car is Crystal Clear Auto Detailing in Swansea. I THINK they are an official Feynlab distributor - I know for sure that they’ve done loads of Feynlab training and are approved to use the self heal products, which they used on my car. Even though I didn’t need proof, after my car had been coated they “scratched” an area of the bonnet on my car with a scourer. They then put a hair dryer over it for a few seconds and sure enough it self- healed and was back to a perfect finish! Apparently summer sun is hot enough to heal too. Yes it’s relatively expensive at £1200, but given the prep work needed (which obviously makes up most of the cost) I think it’s good value. The car really does look better than most new showroom cars.

Hi rblvjenkins,
In that case, Crystal Clear sound a proper outfit, if they've had training and approval. The Feynlab website is probably out of date or just US-centric.

What you had sounds similar to the Platinum Package offered by a detailer near me https://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/pages/d ... g-services:

Platinum Detailing Package - A Five Day enhancement detail which includes wash/decontamination (fallout remover/tar remover/clay bar), a 3 Stage paint correction, wheels taken off and completely sealed with Gtechniq ceramic coating, interior surfaces sealed, glass sealed, trim sealed and paintwork sealed with a 9 year ceramic coating (Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra which is an accredited detailer only products) or 7 Year Self Healing Coating by Carbon Collective, we would need the vehicle from Monday to Friday.
From £1095.00

I love the sound of self-healing.
