B10 V8S Touring 2002 (No. 20)

Post by Allington Alpina » Mon Jun 24, 2013 1:43 pm

Hi,
I purchased V8S Touring (No 20) in November 2010 with 75k miles and it's now just over 83k. It's Pine Green with Chestnut leather interior and in good condition all around, the 19" wheels having just been refurbed and have new Alpina roundels. I also have a new set of unused Alpina over mats with the car. I've decided to part company as rationalisation of my fleet and to allow me to focus on my 1986 635 which I've owned since 1995 and my passion for Scimitar Coupes (sorry!).

I thought I'd make the community aware before I posted on eBay or Autotrader, so that an interested forum member might have first refusal.

I'm scheduled to take some pictures later this week once I've had a chance to clean and polish the car. In the meantime here are some pictures with the car wearing its 18" Winter wheels, but you can at least see the colour of the paint and interior.

I strongly suggest you take some pictures with the summer wheels on. I love the green / chestnut colour combo but who on earth extended the chestnut to the wheels?

Sorry but that's not to my taste at all, and I'll be very surprised if anyone disagrees...

Using the car in the Winter I got fed up constantly cleaning the 19" wheels, so when some 18" came up I had them re-furbed in orange so they didn't look so bad when I used them through the horrible Weather. I'm sorry some feel so strongly that they're wrong on the car, but we all have our tastes and I actually liked them being a bit different. I do agree they're a Marmite sort of thing!

Anyway it's back on the originals now, so will takes some pictures later in the week and post in this thread.

This picture might explain my attachment to the colour orange......

Anyone with any sense can see past the wheels, shirley..? They're a bolt on/off item! Compared to some of the Alpina & BMW Individual schemes you see out in the wild, that's a model of understatement

That's a lovely touring, a really classy combination (I'm referring to interior/exterior here not wheels!). Good luck with the sale, I am sure you'll be sad to see it go.

if only my wife would see an "old" Alpina for what it is- a much better family car than an E91 325 on crashy msport suspension.

It's a beautiful car. I owned a 2002 Saloon V8S which I bought from Sytner Nottingham at 3 years old with 19k miles. I sold it back to them less than 2 years later with 50+k having done the Bath/Leeds/Bath journey quite a few times. It was a great car and I always had a hankering for a Touring, especially when this one went past me in the outside lane approaching the M1/M6 intersection.....

When it came up for sale I couldn't resist and whilst it's had a quieter life, it's been a complete pleasure. For me it's one of the best cars Alpina/BMW have made. The styling since the E39 just doesn't make me feel the way this car does. I'd love one of the E24 based Alpina cars but just now they're not on the plan.

I'm sure there will be expenses with an 11 year old car, but I've seen the bills my colleagues are getting for their new BM's and Audi's. I can't believe it would be too much more expensive running an E39 and the 4.8 litre engine is meant to be less prone to problems than the previous one.

We traveled five up from Bath to Barnes and back with a 73 year old Grandmother, two 6 foot teenagers and a boot of luggage and managed to get there without a moan. We enjoyed being able to hear a conversation and the two hours passed really quickly. That wouldn't be the case in some newer cars.

The car also returned 25 mpg and whilst I wasn't lead footed we didn't hang around on the M4 and we were stuck in traffic quite a bit getting into Chiswick both ways.

I do hope it goes to someone who appreciates the car for what it is.

I agree with your liking for the E39 as I sold my previous one in 2007 and newer BMW's in between just did not give me that same feel. When I bought the V8S in December that feeling was still there, only this time increased with the Alpina experience. Also I have never much been inot estates/tourings but once you see Alpina versions it changes your mind.

My first reaction on seeing the wheels were brave man but didn't upset me much and being winter wheels adds a cheery bit of colour to a drab winter. Not sure if I would be that brave but you sometimes get a surprise what you get attached to.

Ah. There's a little village just west of Chippenham called Allington, just wondered.
Cracking machine but my drive already resembles a car park. Unless you fancy a 944 turbo.
