ALPINA drivers Margaritis/Lunardi eager to defend ADAC GT Masters champion-ship lead

ALPINA and the LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler travel as leaders in the drivers cham-pionship of the ADAC GT Masters to the fourth round of the popular series to the scenic Nürburgring. In the last race in Zolder/Belgium, Alexandros Margaritis (GRE) and Dino Lunardi (FRA) retook the championship lead in their BMW ALPINA B6 with their second victory of the season. Before round seven and eight of the champion-ship, Margaritis/Lunardi have a 16, respective 17 point lead on the Audi R8 of Luca Ludwig (GER) / Christopher Mies (GER) and the Lamborghini of the Stuck brothers Ferdinand and Johannes (AUT), sons of legendary racer and former ALPINA driver Hans-Joachim Stuck. The two youngster in the second BMW ALPINA B6 GT of the LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler, hot shoes Alex Plenagl (GER) and Florian Spengler (GER), scored their best result in the ADAC GT Masters at the last round and are looking to repeat that success at the legendary track in the Eifel mountains.

ALPINA has a very successful record with BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 at the Nürburgring. In three out of four ADAC GT Masters rounds at the „Ring“, BMW ALPINA drivers took the victory and also scored two pole positions. The ADAC GT Masters event is held this weekend in conjunction with the Truck-Grand-Prix, which draws a huge crowd of 200.000 plus spectators over the weekend. As the Nürburgring event is one the season highlights of the series, the competition will be fiercer then ever before with an expected grid of more then 40 cars. „The races will be very hard and thrilling”, Dino Lunardi predicts. “For the first time, the ADAC GT Masters will race on the short course of the Nürburgring, the sprint track. We have to see how that will work out. The BMW ALPINA has proved to be a versatile race car and was quick on every track so far, but the longer track would suit our car even more.“

„After our success in the recent round in Zolder, we have also to carry 50kg success ballast around the Nürburgring according to the regulations“, Alex Margaritis adds. „Furthermore the ‚Balance of Performance’ of our car was changed a bit compared to the last round, the organisers gave us additional 15kg. At the end, this all figures up to 65kg. Races at the sprint track are always very hard and tight. The main focus for us is to make no mistakes and get as many points as possible without to much risk and strengthen our position in the championship.“

The second BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 entered by LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler will be driven by Alex Plenagl and Florian Spengler. The two hot-shoes impressed with a sixth place finish in the ultra-competitive field of the ADAC GT Masters at the round at Zolder. At the Nürburgring, the two youngster will built on their experience collected in the first three rounds to score another good result.

At the two Nürburgring races this weekend, ALPINA and the LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler will receive some very special extra support. ALPINA invited the German dealers to the Nürburgring, who will support the ALPINA drivers in defending the championship lead of the ADAC GT Masters.

Both races will be broadcasted live in Germany, Austria and Switzerland at 11.45 hours by kabel eins. The pan-european motorsport channel Motors TV will air the races on a delayed base on Wednesday, 13 th July at 20:45 hours with several repetitions in the following days.

The Kabel Eins Broadcasting times are 11.55 - 13.05 for both days, BUT that is central Europe summertime, so 10.55 here if you have a freeview receiver and an LNB pointing at the Astra 19.2 satellite you can watch them.

The ADAC GT Masters also has got a live timing site that is constantly updated

with 30kg added in yesterday's race for winning the last race, car number 40 came 11th and car no. 41 did not finish.

Gonna watch the second race in 20 minutes (still with 20kg extra, I think)

Number 41 finished 8th, first win for an AMG SLS GT3 and for those who were at the Rockingham day with the old B6 GT3 passenger rides, the kid that did most of the rides, Andreas Wirth was the winning driver in the SLS

Glad the driver got out OK.
Coming to a dealer near you, used Alpina B6, one careful owner, never raced or rallied

Watching the last few minutes with the slow-mo replay, the rotations the car goes through are pretty shocking
