ah, that's what I was thinking...a "classic" alpina...that would be nice. should I p/x my D3 then?Chas wrote:Good to see an Alpina make it onto this thread
Here's another...
Whether you consider it a classic is subjective but it's over 15 years old, a similar vintage to the 993 mentioned earlier; it's useable every day; it's reliable, in a different league to the lotus; it's certainly fast (indeed faster than the 993)... and you can get two of them for the budget in question. I'd take a coupe and a touring in matching colour schemes, assuming a convertible wasn't available
"best" everyday-use classic sport car
2002 B3 3.3x touring No 100
Clearly the fuel is more expensive than a D3 but I suspect running costs would be less than half of what you could expect from the Porker or the Lotus - due to a combination of reliability and cheaper parts/labour. Bring depreciation into the equation and total life costs would be less than the D3
Mpg is going to average around 23-25 but you can get nearer 35 on a long trip with a light foot.
Chrislux is your man for this discussion - he uses his as a daily car and it has clocked up over 200,000km; not a realistic figure for a lotus, I'd suggest!

I was about to question your conviction but I've just realised you're talking metres rather than milesade and liz flint wrote:Changes the km to m...may be more realistic!

I like Lotuses....not sure I'd enjoy the ownership 'experience' though. Prefer to look at tham I knew someone who worked at TVR...I'm saying nothing , except who wants a car named after a bloke called Trevor. No offence meant to Trevors out there...it's just the brand name that makes me wince.chrisbin wrote:Oi!
