well, most of our rooms seem to have 60-70% humidity. My son having a bit of eczema, I want to get and try a dehumidifier.

anyone can recommend me a good one?

We have a DeLonghi 10litre unit - had it for around 8 years and on constantly in that time. Our model is no longer available, but there are newer versions for around the £120mark IIRC. We live in a solid brick house (as I think you do), and it does suffer from moisture issues; as these all tend to. Our dehumidifier is on 24/7 on the 'medium' setting, and at this time of year is removing 15-20litres a week situated on our open landing. It helps reduce damp, and therefore mould spores. We bought ours when living in the East Mids and in a modern-ish house This country has high humidity everywhere It's more temperature change-related than rain-related. Been bone-dry today, but dehumidifier is ticking away as daytime was warm and sunny, and night is clear, so cool. Solid walls hate the temperature change......

Works in a similar manner to a refrigerator ie heat exchange. Contains a variable humidistat which you set to your desired level.

Costs? I can't really help there. However, DeLonghi aren't the dearest, and aren't the cheapest. But ours works well all these years on (there you go - it'll break tomorrow! ).

Ensure any you buy have a decent capacity (10 litres is a good size for most homes)...this is the newer version of ours:-

We used to have an Ebac originally but after that fell apart inside we just went to B&Q to see what they had on offer,
we bought two very similar to the DeLonghi one that you linked to (the design is so similar i reckon DeLonghi may have been making them for B&Q)
as i recall they were on offer for £60 each, normal price at the time was about £80,
so now, over 5 years later, one lives upstairs, the other downstairs and they really work very well indeed and both are still going strong!

That's the other brand I was trying to remember! They used to make very good (if expensive) units, and my parents had one many, many years ago that seemed to last forever

You'll probably find that like most things, there are a limited number of manufacturers producing under a number of names, as Steve suggests

I have an Argos compressor type on the landing and keep the RH approx 65-70%. Had it for a few years now and apart from getting used to it running when I bought it I can definitely say it has been a good investment.

In the garage I run a ruby Dry dessicant based dehumidifier overnight on economy 7. This is a better type of dehumidifier in my opinion and guaranteed to work regardless of temperature. For some reason some folk may think I value my B10 more than the house!

finally went for this one powerpac (48dB)

wow, that's noisy...the compressor is more or less always working and noisy. I will exchange it if I can. Ok, it works but it's too noisy.

Yes it is (it's a logarithmic scale) - but at those sound power levels, it is not overly significant. If it is perceived as noisy, locate it further away from sensitive ears. Ours operates outside our (open) bedroom door on the landing in the middle of the upper floor, and we aren't woken by it. It's amazing what sounds the human brain becomes used to when you are asleep.

If you intend operating it purely in your sons room, maybe run it during the waking hours to dry out the room, and move it to another area overnight (or change the RH-setting point).

Yes, I saw that. Interesting

All you can do is 'play' with it until you're happy it's doing its job and not annoying you too much. Ours is background noise, and we wouldn't be without one, now.

ok, very last question: does it make sense to get the 21L against the 18L? for the same house, the 21L should be working easier than the 18L? I've asked the manufacturer, their reply:

The extraction rate is higher so it will take less time to reduce the excess moisture in your home, this may reduce it from 8 weeks to 4/6 weeks, therefore the unit in time will work less.

The 21L unit will find it easier to dry out the house initially due to its higher flow-rate, yes, and will probably then need less 'on' time to maintain the humidity levels. Once installed, don't be tempted to turn it off...leave it on, and at a humiidity level you're comfortable with.

Prepare to be astonished at just how much moisture it takes from your house
