I also really enjoyed reading your article Andy, can't wait for the next installment! Very well written and some super pictures!

Also, a bit further on in that magazine there was the article about the Sytner track evening at Donington. Most of the pictures feature Alpinas, and the main picture is of a B5. Also spotted a pic of Kevin in his B10!

Another magazine reference, Performance Car mag from June 1997 features the B10 V8 against the Audi S8. (They, obviosuly, prefered the B10)

D3 Touring and B6 Cabrio in the latest edition of BMW Car Magazine. Gratefully lent to me by the Service Manager at Lind in Colchester while I was waiting.

No comment. Well actually......

...Harris claimes to be an Alpina fan because his Mum has one, but he couldn't be bothered to do a road test of the B3S Touring he had back in 2003 and missed the whole point of Alpina with the B5. He was, I believe, right about the suspension (which I criticised openly on this forum a while back) because I understand Alpina have redesigned it for later models but he failed to understand that Alpina's are anything but the thrash machines that have M badges on them.

Reading Sutcliffe's initial report, he appears to be more in tune with the Alpina ethos - even after 1000 miles - but we'll have to wait and see

Thrash not trash - high revving vehicles.

Hope that clarifies

What particularly annoyed me about the whole B5 vs. M5 vs. 535d test was that he went on about how he couldn't open the taps on the B5 without kangaroo-hopping down the street. Now I've actually tried to see if that behaviour is replicable in real life - it's not, even when you mash the throttle, unless you're in manual mode and really abuse the car.

So that tells us all we need to know about Mr Harris, then. Hate to see what he does to a car on the track!

The B5 does have weaknesses - the suspension setup isn't quite right for UK roads and the gearbox has its duff moments. Personally, though, I haven't yet felt a yearning for the LSD that Autocar abused Alpina for failing to install. My biggest gripe is the high polar moment, combined with lack of front-end bite. Too much understeer...

It won't surprise you to know that he was satsified with about 7k miles on the rears of his C55 AMG and in this week's Autocar he broke the DBR9S that he was testing at Donington :!:

In Total BMW there are two of my favourite retro cars. The E21 Alpina which has been discuss on the forum. I know this is not an Alpina but it is still one cool car: E9 CSL.
Oscar Wilde & Burkard Bovensiepen: I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.
