D3s Touring G21 number 314

Post by big blue » Fri Apr 22, 2022 10:40 am

D3s Touring G21 number 314 at Sytner Nottingham this week. This was looked mint with Anthracite 20 inch Classics which I have not seen up close before on this generation. Apparently having 20inch classic alloys reduces the speed by approximately 3 km/h which I guess is to be expected.

The paintwork popped and this is a standout vehicle. :)

One thing I would say for anyone with this generation of Alpina is that lip of the alloy wheel on the classic is one which juts out and the rim protector on the Pirelli tyre is not enough to give protection with the very low profile also. So in other words, be very careful with curbs even at a basic level as they will be hit and scratched. Not easy with the increasing amount of pot holes! Having had many versions over the years these are without doubt the ones that need the most consideration in this aspect!

There was a similar car for sale at Sytner Solihull for a while in Feb. It's a cracking colour combo.

First one I’ve actually seen on a 22-plate.
Looks good but personally I’d still choose silver alloys.

Unfortunately I can attest that the complete lack of rim protection coupled with the profile of the alloy rim itself means these are a magnet for superficial damage. Whilst kerbing when parking shouldn’t be an issue if you’re taking care (the BMW standard N/S mirror dip and, if optioned, the 360 camera set up both help) as you say, potholes are another matter and if you live anywhere twinned with the moon, as I do, then the odd scrape is going to be hard to avoid.
