How to polish car with deco set

Post by palda00 » Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:54 am

Hi Guys,

I would like to polish my car, but I have deco set on my D3.
Do I have to cover all off the stripes and letters? Or how do I approach tight spots between the stripes and letters?

thank you

Never done this personally but I would approach it by protecting the stripes and lettering with Some 3M detailing tape...if you are going to machine polish then more so. I only say this because I would imagine any polising compound getting g stuck on the deco stripe edges.....

I'm sure someone has done this...

On all of other BMW I am doing machine polishing on my own. And I would like to do so also on Alpina. I was thinking to do the same with 3m tape.
But if any body else have an experience, let me please know.
Thank you

I have personally machined polished my B3 S now 3 times since fitting the genuine strip kit 2 years ago. I was initially worried about this but I don't cover the strips up and have had no issues with damaging them and no residue left over.

Sorry for late reply.
So you are polishing it over stickers as well.
I think I will wait for new stickers to fully stick and I then try it to run over on front fender.

I have just finished a 2 stage paint correction on my D3 E90. It has the decal set on it. I didn't cover it up with tape but instead just stayed away from it. You can always get a microfibre towel and put some compound on by hand in those areas between the decals.

I did however wax over the decals just ensure a proper even coverage on the protection.
