B3 3.2 correct oil grade?

Post by DocsM3 » Tue Jul 27, 2021 3:47 pm

Hi all,

Apologies for the noobish question! Please can someone confirm what oil grade is used in the B3 3.2 (E36)?

There is a sticker in the engine bay with Alpina/castrol signage stating 0W-30 but looking at the various receipts from garages, its had different oil over the years lol I've had various 328i's and tend to use 10W-40, 0W-30 seems bit on the thin side?

Hi mate,

Yes it's indeed 83 :D I was hoping to have it sorted by now but progress has been slow. Bodywork & full respray has been booked for September

I haven't got any decent ones of it lately but I've attached some from a few months ago below, unfortunately still looking very tired but that will be sorted in September along with a new Mohair roof :)

Addressed the issues on MOT, cooling system refresh, new alarm, steering retrim, audio upgrades, upgraded brakes with E46 330ci calipers.. Need to do the old girl justice and start a build thread really! lol

Great to see this car getting the love it deserves - it's a beauty. You'll have to keep us updated with progress.

I suggest to run 5W40, the reason for this is the low temperature protection and the fact its thin, but not too thin so it doesn't burn. Run it in all mine and never lost any vs what i put in.

Any updates on this one? This car is one of my absolute favourite Alpinas - can't wait to see it finished.

Hey mate,

Apologies for slow reply. Unfortunately nowhere near finished due to work, life and a sodding house extension that is going to bankrupt me! Currently residing at the bodyshop with 2 missing outer and inner rear arches

None the less, she will be at the Sytner event in April one way or another! See you there :)
