De Ionised Water
The usual car washing routine is:
Through hose down with trigger gun
Snow foam. (Tried various - real story behind the different brands)
Very delicately Jet Wash off.
Fleece Mitten with Halfords Wash & Wax and two buckets.
Bilt Hamber Wheel cleaner, 10-minute wait then scrubbing brush.
Jet Wash wheels, tickle each spoke with a cloth before mist showering bodywork.
Micro Fibre dry off and clean door shuts, boot lip/sides, bonnet gullies etc.
3 hrs of life gone forever!
Bought a resin vessel and 25kgs of Purolite Deionising Resin.
Snow foamed car using Miracle Grow liquid lawn feeder to dispense product then left 10 mins.
Washed off with brush using deionised water.
Wiped shuts etc.
Had a fag and a cup of tea whilst car dried itself.
Clean as a proverbial whistle, gleams like you would absolutely not believe.
Only 30 mins of life lost and that includes the wheels to a very acceptable standard!
Black plastic & rubbers, back to pure black without chemicals.

Brilliant - that looks very clean and sounds easy peasy.
I washed my wifes black audi today in the sunlight. I struggled with water marks especially in our hard water area. I was going to ask a detailing thread on how i can rectify this, but it seems that you have done this.
Please could you explain a little more about the vessel and deionised water?

Re: De Ionised Water
I live in the Leicester area, so our tap supplied Eau de Severn Trent is chock full of minerals. About 220ppm worth of Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Manganese, Iron etc. Good to drink but not so good for washing dark cars.
The finest solvent known to man is water. Especially pure water, the purer the better, it does and will dissolve everything! That includes the muck that gets on our pride & joy.
In my line of work water quality is critical so we purify it using base exchange or reverse osmosis as we want to dissolve as much crap out of our raw materials as quickly as possible.
The most easily produced form of high purity water (zilch mineral content) is done using ion exchange resins. The stuff is in the form of tiny amber coloured polystyrene beads over which “hard” water is passed and gives up its mineral content in the process.
To contain the resin and get the best resin/water contact you need a special vessel that has what is termed a “distribution” inside it.
That’s the blue thing you see in the picture.
This particular one has a 25ltr volume but only holds about 18 kg of resin.
You can buy small resin vessels from window cleaning supply companies as you can the resin.
The resin I’m using is Purolite MB400, it is exclusively for producing deionised water, there are others that do different things.
Shop round, prices are very variable. It’s possible to get pre-charged vessels on an exchange basis, (window cleaners do this apparently) ready to use.
If you’re going to do it I would recommend acquiring a cheapo conductivity meter from an aquarium shop to monitor the output. The resin will die off over time and you’ll get water spotting again.
Regenerating the stuff at home for reuse as opposed to replacing it is not a good idea, it involves very strong acids and alkalis!

Err No. Why the aversion? Detailing? Imho Car cleaning elevated to a pseudo science worthy of a Glastonbury tent!CaesarBob wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 11:18 pmI imagine the thought of such a brush being used would would have most detailing aficionados twitching uncontrollablyGrumpyjohn1957 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:55 pmErr No. Why the aversion? No amount of nano silica thobul globbul serum is ever going to keep the growing road rash off Brunhilds front end.
Keep it clean in and out, keep dry as possible, wash carefully Inc underneath and occasionally wax.
Service and fluid change at half the stated intervals, drive with mechanical sympathy, immediately attend to every squeak knock, rattle and warning light. That’s my idea of detailing.
Otherwise stick it in a glass box and flagellate over it.
Cars are primarily for driving, not for having their refractive index increased. But then again, I'm old fashioned.

Re: De Ionised Water
This will work for you Rav, I live in very hard water and used this for abit. When you’re at the stage of drying the car connect this up and wash all the other water off then just leave the car to dry and it’ll come up 9/10. Lasted around 20 washes for me.Rav wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 9:55 pmBrilliant - that looks very clean and sounds easy peasy.

Re: De Ionised Water
I use this one from Raceglaze.
https://www.raceglaze.co.uk/car-care-ex ... er-filter/
They have larger ones too. I use it on two cars and do try to wash them frequently. I bought it mid 2018 and have replaced the resin twice. Obviously, the more you use it, the quicker the resin will need replacing.

John, I hope your not intending to clear your car at the cadwell track day, you won’t be allowed to have all that cleaning greth rolling about in the boot!Grumpyjohn1957 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 12:59 amDetailing? Leave the panel beating hammer at home, if you go off then we will use my 4lb lump to get the panels away from the wheels so you can continue to the end of the day.Grumpyjohn1957 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 2:24 pmROFL
