Planning to Detail my D3 BT

Post by BetterCallJimmy » Mon Jun 15, 2020 4:53 pm

I have done about 50,000 miles in my E90 D3 BT in the just over 2 years I had it. I think it's time that it got some (professional) love so I am planning to get it professionally detailed. I also want to get the decal stripes installed while at it. I wonder if anyone here has any recommendations.

I live in Bromley, so anywhere in the Home Counties would work for me.

Thank you in advance.

Great idea as it transforms the paint especially if its never been done. Paint should feel smooth glossy after a wash and dry - most cars dont! I wouldn't know anyone in that part of the world but would recommend having a look on detailingworld. Im sure there is a directory. Quite often you get folks showing off their portfolio. Also ask what products they use....compare prices too...as their are a few rouge detailers out there! Goodluck with it. Lastly have you thought about doing it yourself?

Thank you for your reply. I will check detailingworld. I have thought about doing it myself but I somehow trust a professional more. Plus, want to get the decals on it once it's done so it would be nice to get car into top shape before the decals go on.

I would highly recommend it, I always keep my car clean, polished and waxed and always quite proudly thought I had a clean car. Had a guy come to me and spend the day on the car and man did it make a difference. He did a half and half comparison and said my doors were covered in swirls and hazing and once he had corrected the paint the car actually looked a different colour. It sapphire black and the colour is so deep now and the reflections are great. Park it in a line of cars and it stands out and looks 100% cleaner than anything else.
As for the decals I had my graphite grey strips removed, as you could hardly see them, and replaced with Gold. By Simon Alcorn, who is the only person I would recommend he spent all day installing my decals and honestly mate they are perfect. He has all the correct Alpina drawings so knows exactly how they should fit, his attention to detail is exceptional and the little tricks he has, that I wont share, really make the job perfect. Its transformed my car and the amount of comments I get on it. (I heard a guy say "Wow look at this Alpina" Also had a guy in a 911 also black parked in front of me, he looked at my car, then looked at his and you could see his heart sink when he realised my 11 year old BMW was cleaner and stood out more than his few year old 911.

if you want to maintain the car and keep clean after words, which of course you will, I can recommend Sam's Detailing. Get a sample kit for £30 to try products and enough to give a car a really good clean, I've got a kit and will use to prep the car before next show, which I hope will be BMW's at Beaulieu in July. Fingers Crossed.

Have fun, Mark.
