Best way to clean the ID plate

Post by TonyS » Tue Feb 22, 2022 2:54 pm

My ID plate is a little grubby ( probably had the top down too much ! ) not so much on the silver printing, but in the engraving on the bottom line.

I am a little afraid that a cleaning process might degrade the rest of the plate, so I have not yet attempted to clean it.
Does anyone have any successful experience of cleaning this ?
... if so what materials/method did you use ?

--- but when you are up to your ears in alligators it can be relatively difficult to remember that your original idea was to drain the swamp --- hmmm

Honestly speaking I would just use a microfiber and water

I would agree, don’t use anything too abrasive, the black paint is very thin and easily scratched. Maybe a soft bristled brush might help to remove dirt from the engraving but don’t be too vigorous.

In addition to replies here, I have had pm's on this topic :) so thanks everyone for the suggestions and just as importantly warnings about what NOT to use/do !
I am going to tread carefully.

Doesn't look like it needs cleaning.

But if it did the maximum I would use is a very very very weak APC on a cloth. Like 15:1 tops.
