Tuesday 31st October - Halloween
It's the one evening of the year when are streets are flooded with all kinds of gruesome creatures...
Ghosts and Goblins, Witches and Werewolves and perhaps the most fearsome of all.. pre-pubescent kids dressed in all kinds of customes that are so readily available from your local 24-hour-trading bohemoth like 'Tescoworld' or 'ASDArama'
I sitting here in a darkened room with all the lights off hoping that none of these ghouls will sense my fear and discover that I am actually at home...
Unlike most nights I would be happy to arrive home relatively early, and yet tonight for some reason I had forgotten it was the only night in the year that I could have done with staying in the office for another few hours, rather than torment myself with this personal imprisonment of darkened rooms and selective doorbell deafness.
I know this sounds like the ghostly equivalent to scrooge and infact earlier in the day I had even thought about stopping by a local supermarche to pick up a load of sweets for the little terrors - but you know what - I just can't be arsed!!
And I know i'm not the only one thinking the same...
Yes sure I loved Halloween when I was a kid and I know I'm a parent too.. so I should really try and get into the 'spirit of things' (excuse the pun) but as she doesn't live with me I tend to not get so involved in the whole 'event' of the day.
I read today that the Police are on full alert to crack down on the vengeful little brats that don't leave the door with a handful of candy treats and instead pelt your cars or house with eggs or curry (or worse still) what is the world coming to?
Well I've had a quick look up and down my street (while the coast is clear) and there's no sign of the local undercover ghost squad so for me the choice is clear.
Curtains drawn, lights off.. and a bag full of sweets all to myself....
Trick or Treat.....

I've had a bit of that this evening, if for no other reason, I didn't have the foresight to get some sweets to give the little cherubs.
The unfortunate thing is the young'uns with responsible parents get tarred with the same brush. Some may view it as legalised extortion "Give me stuff or I'll trash you're car!!"

Being a (big) little cherub, I'll add my views.
I'm 15 for Halloween this year, and for the first time I just can't be bothered with it.
Last year I made the effort to get the box of Halloween stuff out of the loft and hang up some rubber skeletons and some candles in the porch and do the pumpkin. I must have spent an hour or so doing all of this, hoping that some excited trick-or-treaters would come to the door and get a bit of a fright. So, after all this effort, guess how many people came to the door? None, zero, no-one, zilch. I highly doubt it was because they got scared away by my decorations, they weren't that scary!
So this year, I simply couldn't be bothered. Anyway, I had much more important stuff to do, like homework... *cough**cough*
Mum still makes the effort, as she went and bought a big bag of 20 or so Mars bars. And only 1 group of people came to the door. I didn't want to face the embarresment of answering the door, so she did. I suggested she gave them something healthy, like an apple, but then they would probably only throw it at the cars.
I only stopped going trick or treating a few years ago, and I still enjoyed it, getting to stay out especially late to get given sweets, what could be better!
Maybe next year I will make a bit of effort...
...then again

Brian, I never make assumptions regarding what Jim's talking about - it makes it so much more funB10BRW wrote:I thought that too Charles, until I realised that Jim was probably talking about the last time Andy put up a blog, which was 13 months ago.
