Thanks Asim!

New callipers have fixed a few things that I’ve noticed recently which is a nice positive result. Car is driving really well and the alignment will make it perfect as the steering is a tad funky.

Fortunately not, got my dad to come out with everything needed in a suitable rescue vehicle :)

Unfortunately this was the perfect time to discover that the E46 spare wheel we’ve had lying around for years does not fit my car. So back home to swap the D4 onto a summer and put the winter on. That’ll at least mean I can still get to work in my car instead of having to use another.

Do they do space savers for F11’s?

Good news that you had support on hand - still a major pain though.

As for the F11, I’ve been speaking to a few people and there is an F01 7 Series space saver that will hopefully fit. My B5 has front brakes from a 760 I believe so it should clear. Just need to get it ordered and keep my fingers crossed!

I haven't looked, as I have stuff on top of my boot liner at the moment, but is there space under the floor for a space saver Paul?

Unfortunately not - it would just need to be tired down in the boot which is a pain as you then can't get to the small space underneath.

It's annoying as there could be room for one if they made the tray under the boot floor a different shape and moved the strut. You could probably make one fit but it would be messy. BMW are just signed up to run flats though and so don't give you the option. A space saver was still an option on the X5 - shame they didn't extend that to the 5 Series.

On the one hand I don't want the inconvenience of carrying one around, but then I see Toby's story and realise I don't want to get stranded either.

I got mine for an F34 based D4 from Alloy Wheels Direct for £227, plus a bag and a widow maker jack from ebay. Say £250 all in. As others have said, there isn't space for it under the boot floor but if its the choice between that and being stranded / waiting for the AA it's no brainer for me

Picked up some Pirelli sottozeros this morning, seems to be impossible at the moment to get any pilot alpins in my size that isn’t £400+ vat per tyre.

Initial impressions of the Pirelli’s? Dry grip will certainly mean the back end will be seeing some more activity that’s for sure  Michelin’s will be back on next winter, these make me look forward to putting a new set of 4S on in the spring

BH working it’s magic, first time I have used it in a month as I decided to try the Ultimate Finish “safe” wheel cleaner. Definitely happy I’m using BH again :D

So, the Pirelli’s that went on came off after 3 days as they were out of round (no kidding) balanced twice so wasn’t that, made the car unbearable from 60+. They’re now in the bin as in my mind as well as being uncomfortable also pretty dangerous as clearly there has been a structural failure in the tyre. I decided to switch back to summers, admittedly a little earlier than I’d originally hoped for. Falkens back on the front as they still have 6mm and never gave me any trouble but they weren’t so great on the rear so I had a new set of PS4S’s fitted to the rear, I will be putting matching tyres up front in due course as I prefer to have whole sets.

Straight after I had the tyres swapped over I dropped the car down to TWG for some planned work.

I had the alignment, gearbox service, glow plug module and belts and tensioners changed as they were getting on abit and the glow plug module was causing a lumpy idle. Car is running 100% better and is completed transformed, I have seen a increase in fuel economy too. The car will be returning at the end of the month for its interim oil change (I run at 6-8k intervals, preferably closer to 6) and at the same time we will do the water pump as a preventative measure.

Today I put new front discs on as a lip was starting to form and I wasn’t sure if they are originals, I doubt they are but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Very happy with the car now and it’s running without any fault codes which is great. In a few months time I may look at doing the upper timing chains on the car as they’re the ones that will be most likely to cause issues and it isn’t a hard thing to do. Being a later car it’s a lot less susceptible to failure and it’s had been run on short intervals so I wouldn’t deem it “at risk” but it would be nice for peace of mind.

Soon I can move onto the cosmetic side of things. I’m planning to do a bumper + bonnet respray and then front end PPF to keep it nice and fresh. Wheel refurb and then have the driver seat bolster looked at as it’s got abit of wear on it.
