Sounds like that turned into a bit of mission, but definitely worthwhile in the end. You need to get some more pics up though ;)
Abit more than a mission Bob  it definitely needed doing. Hopefully when the weather & work clears up I’ll get some more photos of it and hopefully a group photo of all 3.
Hi ttrill.
My first time to own a D3 BT too, and agree it does handle very nice and it has enough get up and go for my taste now. The car was originally purchased by a forum member its #246 Santorini Blue. I would like to get hold of the factory spec sheet like you show in your post and wondered would Sytner's provide me with a copy if I asked them, or did your car come with it supplied.?

Cheers.
Hi Zedwheels,

Mine is the original invoice that was supplied with the car however you can get a certificate from Alpina which lists the options although it’s €80

Rear shocks tonight. Walk in the park compared to the front although similar story; offside shock completely destroyed and suffering heavy corrosion, nearside not too bad. Weird.

Now it seems like a bastard wheel bearing is on its way out :wall2
It’s pissing me off with the amount of things that have needed/ need doing especially for a daily. Some standard E90 stuff and some stuff just plain weird. I’m too invested in the car and do genuinely like it too much to sell but it certainly tests my patience sometimes

Keep going Toby, it’s probably just a function of hitting a certain age point where plenty of niggly jobs start to crop up. Power through and you’ll feel the benefit, otherwise, if you sell some other bugger will.

Is your commute mostly anti-clockwise if it’s all the offside components are getting worn out? 🤔

I’m certainly looking forward to coming out the other side and having the car properly sorted. It’s not that bad at the moment I just have high standards

Commute is very mixed, mostly motorway but I offset my driving during the week with country roads at the weekend :D

Feel your pain, but stick with it, you have a lovely car and I'm sure after this all will be great. It'll certainly drive, ride and handle well 8)

Thanks Metrics, gave it abit of a shakedown drive this morning whilst the weather was nice and it’s definitely got the magic back. Once the alignment is done suspension wise it’ll be spot on.

Daylight today revealed that the rear offside calliper is binding (wheel is nearly black compared to others) which is a relief as the wheel bearing on E90’s are probably one of the worst jobs and it’s worse than a PITA.

That’s tomorrow sorted :)

Ha Ha, yes makes all the difference sounds cheap now!
I just sent a private message to Purplepork, forum member who was the original buyer from Sytners to ask if he has any of the old old paperwork from when he bought it that may list any spec additions, he did tell me that the colour option cost an extra £2K, It has a plate in the engine bay saying its an "individual" whatever that means?

Bye the way, best of luck today with your maintenance work on the car and no scuffed knuckle's :!: At least you can do it yourself i wouldn't have a clue so it would be a garage cost for me.

I think they mark them as individual due to the fact they are Alpina’s, all 3 of ours have individual. I’m sure Bob or Charles will be able to elaborate.

Fortunately the calliper was able to just be wound back and is working great now and even better I caught it before the disc suffered any damage which is a nice relief for once!

I’m not sure this is the official explanation but my own conclusion about the Individual sticker is that: for all ALPINAs that start life on the BMW production lines, they are spec’d differently to an equivalent standard BMW model, and for example with the D3BT’s, they have a unique cloth/leather that wasn’t available on a regular 3-series, hence the Individual sticker applied to all. Even the early D3 MT’s which were in standard colours of Black Sapphire or Sparkling Graphite and brushed ali trim got an Individual sticker and I can only presume this is down to the ALPINA specific cloth/leather upholstery.

In Zed’s case though, being Santorin Blue II, it has a proper Individual exterior colour too.

Thanks for responding.

When i had the Alpina roadster though i don't recall that having an individual plate within the engine bay :?: But before i had that Alpina i owned a BMW Z3 and that had two tone black with Arizona sun leather seating and it had the "Individual" plate so suppose it could be down to just the Leather :?:

New rear pads and rotors tonight, I wasn’t so lucky and had a slight warp on the offside. The rotors were nearing end of life anyway so not too bad.

I’ve decided to arrange for some fairly extensive work for the end of Jan. I’m wanting to get the car from a good condition to excellent just for my own piece of mind. Some preventive maintenance included as well.

The car will have:
Gearbox service
New glow plug module
Walnut blasting
Inspection of swirl flaps and replace whole intake if necessary
Prop doughnut
Alignment
And a few other niggles

I’m tempted to have the car re-bushed (not poly) but other than the odd bush that is heavily exposed they are okay so I’m on the edge abit about that

New rear callipers on tonight as the old one was still binding so these should be good for another 85k :)
