It seems the 6.0 engines are stroked 5.7's but because of that have very short piston skirts. Alpina originally specified 0/30 oil but it seems this was too thin to support a sufficient oil film on the bores to prevent pistion rattle so after a few expensive warranty rebuilds Alpina now specify 10/60 for all their V12 engines....
A German friend of mine had this problem with his then 2 year old B12 6.0.

A total engine rebuild was called for at a cost exceeding 25000 Euros
Luckily for him it was covered under warranty :dance
He still has it and has had no further problems :D

Absolutely no idea what purpose either serve; any ideas?
I think you will find that fuse is for the Ceiling Neon Glitter Mood Lights!

Looks like it may have been for an aftermarket alarm. Certainly not OEM.

E24man wrote:A bit more preventative work done - this time on the exhaust and apologies for the crappy phone pics.

The E38 Alpina exhaust is made out of stainless steel.......... except for the clamps that hold the flanges of each section together over the sealing rings. 17 years of mostly Scottish weather had taken their toll and of the four clamps (two for the downpipe to centre section, two for the centre section to rear section) the two rear ones were looking distinctly past it.

It may not be clear from the pics but they had split and the bolt heads had completely corroded away. The issue with replacing them is that the ends of the pipe are 'belled' to accommodate the soft-metal sealing ring between each section so how on earth do you you get new clamps over the bells and then get them to seal again.

Solution? Stainless steel Turbo down-pipe clamps - available in a range of sizes and has an internal shape specifically for fixing this kind of union...

The front two joins are in far better condition but I have the clamps now for when the decide to rot a little more, or I get the inclination to just replace them.

I've used these split flanges

The mats look right now
Did u decide to keep the factory fitted badges on the end?
Also re the exhaust do all four pipes work or is it cosmetics like the e92 quad exhaust
