This thread will come in waves as its very weather dependant!

So far i have removed some of the loose ICE wiring that the previous owner had left for me to do, so glovebox out and all wiring removed to ground level. I will get rid of it as soon as i have the seats out! Original BMW Business CD player installed for now.

Stay Tuned!

Not far, i'm in Bridgend.

I'm not sure with the Grill badge, it has been on the car since 2008 at least, i know its not 'right' but it does give some individuality to the car and sets it apart from Simon13's car and also other Boston green E36's as there's loads of them!

I did a minor bit on the car last night, mainly was working on my white tourer as its off to a friend as the B3 has relpaced it!

As far as i'm aware, its the only AlpineWhite3 323 Sport Tourer in the country, and it has been fantastic, well after i did a minor rebuild on it! It has featured in Straight Six magazine in the Long Term Running Reports, which incidently i look after for the club, and we need some Alpina's in there so if your a club member and want to do some reports, drop me a PM!

My drive at at the moment:

Image

From left to right, 1995 3.0 Saloon M3, one of 18 cars in Daytona Violet and one of 415 UK spec Saloons, my B3, 1991 325iSE, one of the first brought to the UK, was the pre launch showroom car for a dealer in South London (i forget the original name), and my 1999 323 Tourer, one of the last 30 made for UK market. Anyone would think that i like E36's!!

So here are a few pics of the issues with the car:

Image

The Alpina mat needs a good clean, so replaced with overmats for now.

Image

Orignal BMW Business CD Player refitted, came with the car.

Image

The start of the ICE wiring being removed.

Image

Bit ominous! Santa Pod ticket left in the glovebox. Glad its just an entry ticket!

Image

BMW Torch missing, i have a spare

Image

Usual E36 problem, although i generally have been lucky with the cars i have had in the past, door handle coming away, this still looks repairable.

Image

General pic of interior, steering wheel is quite worn, could do with re-trimming, but most comanies want to do an exchange and don't have a switchtronic wheel available! May see if i can get one done while-you-wait.

Image

Rear Seat, centre section is discoloured, not sure how, but will deal with this later.

Image

Load Cover in good condition, just needs a good clean.

Image

Boot floor, very dirty, previous owner has left a quote for parts that he wanted to replace in the service history, i checked these out and they were for all the interior boot trim. May see if i can give these a clean as the quote was over £200.

Image

Boot under side, this is marked, may get away with a slight sand and recolour. If not may trim it in leather!

Image

General Condition of interior mats

Image

Still has the tax disc holder on the car, but i am hoping to get the original plates from the previous owner as he is in the process of taking the private plate off.

Image

General condition of the wheels, they were refurbed sometime back and are in excellent condition. Just need the detailing touch!

Image

For some reason, Foglamps missing. Will have to source some genuine BMW items for these holes!

Image

Body is pin straight!

Image

Drivers door strip coming away, will need a couple of clips from BMW.

Image

Usual BMW Badges peeling, i have some new BMW ones in the garage, what are the opinions on the Alpina Ones??

Image

Engine bay, clean and original.

Image

The inlet manifold needs cleaning up, but not sure what i can use to touch up the black paint thats come away. Any ideas??

Alpina badges are all aftermarket and poor quality inks are used so they fade. If you want't it 'proper' and original, stick to BMW as it is a BMW ALPINA not an ALPINA ALPINA.

Inlet manifold on mine was a little 'salty' and had peeled/blown/flaked in places. Halfords (of all places) do a range of high temperature spray paints in various colours inc matt and gloss black (modders use them on exhaust manifolds etc, I understand ) which go straight on after a good clean-down. Worked on mine and looks much better. I know someone in the paintshop/rebuilding trade and he recommended something to me, too (I used the Halfords as it was relatively cheap and easily obtained at the time and if it hadn't worked I'd lost little). When I catch up with him again, I'll get the name of it off him...it's 'crinkle paint' or something similar...

For info, I sprayed mine in-situ, following removal of the adjacent injector rail top plastic cover, covering the engine in an old sheet, masking everything underneath the manifold with old cloths, and applying masking tape to the ALPINA log on the inlet. Basically, I covered-up everything else inc the wings, front panel and windscreen with sheets/cloths of one type or another so no overspray risk. I also ran a vacuum cleaner nozzle just above the spray area to once more remove overspray risk.

Welcome...I adjusted it a little to make it more easy to read

It worked a treat on mine...a couple of hours from start to finish as it's a faff covering everything up after you've cleaned the manifold down :x I used small brass wire brushes and fine sandpaper on it to remove edges in prep. I put 3 or 4 coats of paint on (but you could apply more- I probably would, but I was rushing a bit at the time), and even managed to treat it with a coat or 2 of AG SRP afterwards to make it a smooth(ish), shiny finish.

Here is what I used. Seems there is only one black finish in this product, and I would call it 'Satin' when it's cured. I though there were gloss and matt options, but I can't see them...or they may have been in a different range on the same shelf. Bad memory

Close enough :) ... and from previous posts I see that you know most of the classic driving roads down there. You`ll soon have the B3 along them :D

I am... It looks sh!t

The only time you see those are on crappy ebay wannabe dogs accompanied by badly-scuffed 19-spoke replica wheels and a tacky //M badge elsewhere.

Just my humble opinion

[The rest of the car looks great, btw!]

Frost do a lot of restoration stuff and this wrinkle finish high temp. black paint might suit the manifold finish.

http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-paint ... rosol.html

postage and packing costs £6.95 on orders under £75 (free on orders over) so might be worth making a shopping list of other stuff you need at the same time
