BMW Sommerfest -7th August 2022 (confirmed)

Provisional date has been provided for the BMW Sommerfest to be held at Donington . It is provisional as the contract has not yet been signed between the two parties but is anticipated.

ETA: Now confirmed for 7th August 2022

The organiser has informed me that should there be a desire for an ALPINA section this is very much on offer and it is not necessary to be part of any Club, Register or Group to attend and display.

When we have confirmation the the contract has been signed and both parties have agreed we can publish the dates. Any previously published dates were due to an error within the organising staff and should be disregarded until full confirmation is given.

I would like to attend this event, Alpina section would be good.
Even further North than Gaydon though , when was the last time the BMW car club held a large event south of the Thames

The Bmwccgb whilst organising this event are not advertising it as "their" National Event or as a replacement or substitute for Gaydon. There is a separate event in April at Gaydon called the Ultimate BMW show, this has nothing to do with the BMWCCGB.

I could never see any major BMWCCGB event being held in the South, but do agree they might consider moving it around the Country or a North and then South Event.

One benefit from Donington for those who use hotels is that there are many close by.

I am waiting to see what the exact content will be? Speaking to the organiser he said that Donington was proposing that the displaying vehicles have the whole use of the inner circuit. However, all the facilities which are fixed ones are on the outside of the circuit and accessible via a pedestrian tunnel.

Therefore there was going to be some discussion about temporary facilities close to the display area. We do not know what these will be and to what extent they will be provided.

I have a feeling that this will only be tickets in advance and that therefore the risk of the Great British weather will be something to content with.

It’s not as bad as it sounds tbh. They always tend to put club parking on the inside, but the tunnel pops out right in the paddock near the cafe and toilets etc.

The target is for at lease 2000 display vehicles, it is alleged. I have been there many times, mostly brass monkey weather, so hope for something better.

Subject to official confirmation it is 7th August 22. It appears that on the Saturday 6th, there is qualifying for the 750 Club BMW racing and a concurs competition. However the main event is Sunday only. What that exactly will comprise of is yet to be discovered. The actual competitive racing takes place on the Sunday.

From a personal perspective its a 3 hr drive each way for me, for an event that lasts about 6 hrs or so on a Sunday. Therefore, potential is to travel on a Saturday and stay. However avoid the Holiday Inn at Donington who are asking 323 pounds per night and the possibility you may be woken by holiday makers going for an early flight!
