Renewed Insurance

Post by rideti.me » Mon Sep 16, 2013 11:20 am

D3 BT Touring 2010

12000miles / 1000business
Age 31/12 yrs NCD
Nil points/accidents

Stored in Reading, high risk occupation.

Protected NCD with £300 total excess

£430 with Adrian Flux (Trinity Lane)

All of my quotes this year were significantly lower than previous years (except any broker using Equity Redstar who don't seem to have adjusted their underwriting down at all).

Another year on and gocompare gives me LV at under £200. That's fully comp, protected bonus, and 3k miles per annum. The best Aviva can do is the same as last year  I think it's the first time my insurance is less than the road tax

My renewal quote for the B10 from Classicline came through @ £314 so decided to check online:

LV = £196 fully comp
Admiral multi car has come in at £178 fully comp with a £100 excess, protected NCB and up to 5000 miles, I guess that's the advantage of being just the wrong side of 50 and living on Hayling :)

Had a quick check online and found best price of £183 from.......PRIVILEGE!

Phoned the renewal hotline, and they will match their own quote!!
Exactly the same situation as last year! Renewal from Privilege came in at £318 and on checking with the meerkats, Privilege was the cheapest at £181! A quick phone call, and they matched their own quote again:D

£235 for the renewal with Admiral on the B3S Touring :D

Multicar policy
Protected NCB (18 years)
20k miles pa
No claims, no offences
48yo teacher
Garaged in rural Oxfordshire

In addition, they have quoted me £338 for the Espace.

As for the third car in the fleet, they quoted me £900 for my 17 yo son on a V plate Megane. He passed his test 4 months ago and this part of the policy is now in his name, allowing him to start building up his own NCB and history. Cheapest online quotes for him on a stand-alone policy was £1300 with a black box, rising to a hopeful £19,000 (yes, you read that right!).

Excellent quotes all round, especially for the boy :D

I finally decided to take out agreed value insurance for my E39 '98 B10 3.2 and I did this via Hagerty classic car insurance. Really friendly people to deal with, knew about the Alpina marque, and their system identified my 3.2 model which most others frustratingly do not list. They do not have a no claims bonus system and the quote is obviously based on accident / driving offenses history etc and you have to have a daily driver car as your main vehicle which I have been able to transfer my full no claims bonus to which makes the price even better.

Fully comp.
Age 59 (me of course) and retired.
Garaged (compulsory).
3k miles per annum limit.
Social domestic and pleasure.
Includes 90 days European fully comp cover.
Agreed value £8000 (explained below :) )

Cost £272.53 with an excess of £250.

This policy also includes RAC breakdown and recovery for the UK and Europe and personal choice of accident repairer if the worst happens.

The reasoning behind the agreed valuation is based on a number of things.
There are four B10 3.2 models currently up for sale and on Ebay, one in a poor state is up for auction looking for up to around £3000. Three others are for sale at garages priced at approx £6000, £8000 & £10,000 based on condition and mileage.
Condition and mileage wise mine fits in well in the middle at £8,000. I am the second owner of my car having owned it now for nearly 15 years. It has covered just over 92k miles, has full service history and the condition is very good. Admittedly a rusty sill repair was carried out last year but there are no further obvious signs of rust elsewhere on the car.

The valuation with Hagerty will not be fully completed until I have supplied them with a variety of good quality photos from all angles including under bonnet and mileage.

One final point, don't suggest I could get much a better car for that money as after nearly 15 years I have got used to the lovely bus sized steering wheel amongst other things on the 3.2 model.

As requested I sent a variety of photos to Hagerty underwriters a few days ago and they have now issued me with a certificate for an agreed valuation of £8000 for my B10.
I have got to say what a friendly and helpful company they have been to deal with.
