Myself 47 and partner 52, both with no claims or points, 8 yrs NCD
Fully comp inc business use, legal cover and a host of other add ons and
12k mileage pa. Location Lancaster.

I thought this was ok until they said I'd have to fit a tracker. On-line comparison sites ranged from £750 to infinity
I'd suggest the business cover is slamming this, try adjusting the quote for business/no business to see if the case, maybe certain insurers better for business use than others ?

I got an acceptable deal with Aviva, £397 annual for the E39 V8 for me and Mrs, 7 years NCD, 5k mileage, half the Flux quote, 2/3 the Privelige quote (who insisted they wanted an alarm certificate for a factory fitted alarm !)

Guess who owns Tracker? DL are VERY naughty with this, but you may be lucky and buy a D3 with a unit already fitted so it's 'only' the yearly subscription you get caught for
Very naughty indeed. Jammy gits

The business use isn't necessary come to think of it, so I will get a revised quote. I'm currently paying £268 for my Astra with the circs listed above and obviously expect to pay more for a D3 but after factoring in the cost of trackers et al, this is looking like being nearly double.

Shop around. My 11y/o Astra costs me about the same as you (within a fiver), £90 less than my 2 1/2 y/o D3BT (albeit within an Admiral multicar policy, but obviously the driver info on both cars is identical). Admiral are usually 'good' with ALPINA (not-so with the Astra as I can get a cheaper stand-alone elsewhere for that, but needs-must atm). Admiral do not require a Tracker to be fitted and Trackers gain no discount with any insurer I've come across yet (I always quote with and without for comparison) so don't feel you must have one.

It's just Direct Line, Churchill and Privelege who have this Tracker caveat as they own Tracker so are trying to boost their own business.

Here's my renewal quote from the section sponser this year:
Car: 1998 B10 3.2 Lightly modified
Age: 42
Location: South Manchester (yep that doesn't help :( ) & garaged.
Fully comp & protected SDP & Commuting
NCD: 22 years, 3 points long since expired
Drivers: Just me!
Mileage: 9000 per annum
Company: Adrian Flux (Broker) Trinty Lane (company)
How Much!!!!!: £1001.50 including £30 policy issue fee £30 finance fee (3 installments & £15 personal accident cover
(so basically I could knock the £15 off and pay in full for a reduction to £956.50..........)

Plus to add insult to injury they mention that they are no longer able to offer
an agreed value on the policy that I have had for the last 5 years with them!
oh and this wasn't mentioned in the covering letter, I had to spot that little nugget as a notation on the bloody schedule

Admiral quoted £546 covering the Mods but not on a 'like for like' replacement basis that Flux offer and no agreed value.

Classicline insurance who advertise in the BMW car club magazine quoted
£523 covering the Mods (need to clarify 'like for like' with them) with a £250 excess and an agreed value of £6000 pending pictures and valuation form.....

hmmm wonder where my money will likely be going this year......

Update: Confirmed 'like for like' replacement with Classicline, readjusted the Agreed value to £4500 (I reassessed the current realistic market price)
subject to them giving the ok on it when they get the form and piccies, so money paid & the new policy kicks in on 17th of this month,
phoned Flux (I must say, for the record, the staff there are always friendly and pleasant to deal with on the phone, its just their prices I have an issue with)
to say that I wouldn't be renewing with them, they rechecked the quote and said they couldn't get anywhere near Classicline's price.

Thought I would just add my renewal experience of today with Admiral.

My Multicar renewal for the B3BT and the wife's Freelander 2 was £1060, which worked out at £560 for the Alp and £400 for the FL2. THis was only slightly more than last year so I was tempted to just pay it. However, as it only take 5 minutes online, I thought I'd check.

So, I went to Money Supermarket (I avoid Go Compare out of principle because of the tv advert) and did two separate quotes, i.e not a Multicar policy. The Alp came in at £410 and the FL2 at £250  . I was pretty shocked so I called Admiral. THey checked everything and honoured the quote. £650 all in....happy days

I got a very nice surprise last week when I went to renew my B10 V8 insurance. I decided to try gocompare, who suggested Aviva was cheapest at £350... So I tried Aviva directly through their own website and got £260. Needless to say, I didn't hit the back button and got my credit card out straight away 8)
Incidentally, that's fully comp protected with business use and an SP30.
