Admiral has always looked after me very well with annual premiums for the B3S in the region of £200 (ancient, full discounts, safe postcode etc), but then we have 5 cars on their multicar policy (the more cars, the higher the discounts).

For the record, this is for 20,000 miles pa and a guaranteed value of £15k - so I'm pretty pleased with that number as it beats most limited mileage "classic" policies into a cocked hat!

I'll be moved to Birmingham by early Feb, so hate to think what the B4's insurance will become!
I would like to know too, keep us posted
My B4's insurance is up for renewal shortly, so I'm having a look round to see what the best price/cover will be. Currently with A-Plan but haven't received their renewal notice yet.....recently moved to Brum.

Have heard Tesco are good but web site brings up M4, so I'll need to call them.

Just been on the LV web site....with me by myself it comes to over £1400 (64, 17yrs NCB, 3000mls, SDP) - added partner and she brings it down to around £950. Still a lot more than Essex!

Can anyone else recommend a company offering good deals at the moment?

Not overly impressed with A-Plan at the moment....spoke to them last Thursday and I'm still to receive their quote.....and in the meantime I receive a let sent prior to my call stating they need further info to quote and ask that I call in....I would expect them to call me....and not even bother with the letter! :-)

Ok, I've obtained quotes from a number of companies but if anyone can recommend others, please let me know.....especially if a B/D4 in Birmingham area.

Finally got the renewal figures from:

A-Plan:
£1800 - just me
£2120 - With Partner

Adrian Flux: £927 - With Partner

AA:
£2,673.35 - Both

Tesco:
£1428.18 - Just me
£1182.89 - With Partner

LV:
£1400+ - Just Me
£950 - With Partner.

The best so far is:
NFU:
£638.64 - two drivers
£670.08 - Just me

And that's with compulsory excess of £250, Legal cover, Standard AA & Courtesy car.

If I up the excess to £500, it comes out at £571.14.

So, it's looking like NFU.

Unless anyone else has another company to try?

My B4 is now insured with NFU, they were by far the cheapest and cover came with some nice extras.

It was nice to call them to give the go ahead and be told the cost of cover will be another £55 cheaper at £516.41....can't grumble at that! :-D

Just started my search for multi car Insurance, however, first hurdle has bene the number of insurers that cannot find my B3S, they find a B3 and the only B3S they find is the Coupe or Convertible.

A Plan have merged with Howden, they do not do Multi Car but do policy where the second car mirrors the NCD of the first car, expecting a quote tomorrow.....

After moving from Essex to Birmingham I found the premium on my B4 shot up with A-Plan & Adrian Flux but I then found NFU to be very reasonable, so might be worth giving them a call.

I have my B3S Touring with Admiral multicar but they only list the saloon and they needed to check with the underwriters to see if they could cover mine.

Turns out they could but there is permanent note on my account confirming this arrangement.

Worth giving them a call

Thanks Guys, will try both of those.

A general question on Multi Car, I understand that you can insure the initial car and then the additional car once its insurance expires. However, do you still get the benefits of NCD if the second car is the one with the NCD discount?

I have been with A Plan now known as Howden for all of the BMWs I have owned since 2011 including the B7. There is little doubt that generally premiums will rise, the rationale for this is alleged to be increased cost of labour and parts. However, I have a more conspiratorial theory.

The government is under pressure and wants to be seen to be Green, therefore what better way than attacking the motorist? Vehicles which could be repaired and being written off due to excessive reparation costs. The owner gets paid out a sum, the insurance industry is making a loss to comply.

The rectification of those losses ( and this is a long term game isnt it?), increase the premiums. What are the alternatives to paying more?

Perhaps some of these, no matter how drastic or undesirable:-

1. Sell you car or one of them?
2. Reduce the number of declared miles?
3. Garage or secure compound the car if possible.
4. Increase your excess. No accident or claim you pay nothing?
5. Fit a tracker or such device
6. Drop some of the attached benefits of the policy ie loan car, legal covers, break down cover.
7. Remove others from your policy
8. Dont get points on your licence

I can feel the " that does not apply to me" and " what a load of nonsense", and its a fair call I suspect in the majority of cases. Sure if you have hours to spend you can explore the numerous avenues offering cover, so good hunting!

I had someone call me once from Aviva, about insuring my B7. They said they could not find such a model and I must have it wrong? No, I said to which their reply was I think you mean D3 Sir! Little Britain must have got their script from these people.

This is becomming a bit of a struggle, nobody seems to be able to find a B3S 2003 Saloon, only the B3 Saloon or the B3S Coupe & Convertible, even when you go to the manual section options on the comparison sites its the same........?
