Agreed value

Post by BarryM » Fri Mar 17, 2023 6:46 pm

I've renewed with A-Plan again and I'm determined to get an agreed value put on the car this year!

What's the best way to get an accurate market value, the car is a 2001 B10 4.6 in very good condition with approx 130k on the clock. It's had quite a few big jobs done such as the timing chain guides & full genuine suspension replaced as well as lots of smaller stuff so I'd rather it doesn't get written off over a car park prang or something relatively minor. I've told them it's worth £15k but I genuinely made that up as B10s seem to vary in price enormously and it just seemed an average sort of figure.

Anyone else with a B10 or older Alpina got an agreed value and how did you go about it?

many thanks
Barry

Dont' be shy - Tell them a price. Obviously you know what the B10 means to you and what you have spent. I believe you have to send detailed pictures when doing such a thing. I am not with A-Plan currently but this is what I had to do on the B3S.

Hi Barry, I've been with A-plan for the last couple of years with the Alpina, Mini and the Audi A6 I inherited from my Dad, the B10 is on an agreed value classic policy for 17k, I had an extensive body restoration carried out 3 years ago so it's looking like new again and I wanted to protect that investment.

Normally they will require 6 photo's for the agreed value, both sides plus front and rear with under bonnet and an interior shot as well, with mine I explained the work I'd had done and included a couple of photo's of it undergoing the body resto.

Hi Steve, thanks for your input - that help you gave me back in 2014 wasn’t wasted was it :D

Pleased to hear your car is well sorted, I had some very limited external sill work done on mine in 2018 where there was some surface rust - we did look inside the sills and concluded it wasn’t rusting inside as well so I think my bodywork is good!

I have receipts for the big stuff but assumed agreed value was based on market value, I might just do a search on recent B10 sales and see if my £15k can be upped a bit.

Cheers

Technically it is based on market value but if you do a search on Autotrader nationally the price range is quite wide, low mileages being obviously the most expensive, 15-18k is probably about right for cars that have been cared for and had either mechanical or body restoration work done.
My sills were shot at the rear jacking point so new BMW sills were grafted in with new rear quarters, as the rear arch’s were starting to go in the seam between outer and inner lip and it had crept out onto the outer arch on the nearside.
I also had a new boot lid to finally get rid of the spoiler bolt hole rusting issue, it now sports the V8S bond on spoiler instead which I think looks fantastic, had to reinstate the rear window high level brake light though.

I am with A Plan, got an agreed value. Send pictures also with pictures of 3 concours trophy winners in 2022. If might be worth entering concours or show and shine to show that the vehicle is cherished and in the terms of the Insurer they consider "more care" will be taken by the owner,

I found that used this when was quoted 250 pounds more for a 335D 4 series than I pay for my B7.
