Alpina Insurance
Re: Alpina Insurance
Insurance is a revolving and moving platform, just like shares and money markets. If you are using a broker they are adding their premium to the price given to the by the Insurer. The volume discount may or may not be passed on. Although Insurance companies will deny itf, if they have claim in quantity for certain models premiums will rise, even though you as the individual may not have had an accident or claim.
Where labour costs and parts increase the insurer will again increase the premium. Specialist cars may be dropped by their approved repair organisation or indeed if the car has to go to a (for example ) BMW approved body shop, your quote may increase.
If your personal circumstances have change in any way it can affect your policy. Example you are in a certain post code a then 10 or 20 cars of your general type are stolen. You dont know about it, however the insurance business does and whack up goes the premium if you if were not affected personally.
The quote is virtually "on the day" unless guaranteed for a fixed period. I have found by negotiating well before the actual policy is due has served me well.
I also asked for loyalty discount, using the same broke for 2 cars for the last 11 years, I got a small offer which I took.

Re: Alpina Insurance
I just renewed my insurance for my D5 for me and the missus. It was £380 last year with Tesco insurance but they just quoted me £278 after a 10% reduction for being a club card member.
I check on the comparison sites and the cheapest quote was £340 with Hastings. So Tesco for the win.

I've got both of mine with Tesco currently - they seem to be quoting very competitively on Alpinas at the moment. The Hybrid wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 1:41 amI just renewed my insurance for my D5 for me and the missus. D5 2012 renewal from Tesco came through at £213, down from £380 the previous year, plus I had added two of my children on (ages 30 and 27). I rang them to check the details and they confirmed it was correct, then went on to check loyalty discount and came back with a reduced price of £194. I pay more for my Honda CRV

Re: Alpina Insurance
Hi Guys,
Can anyone recommend an insurance company that are offering good rates in the south Birmingham area, especially for an e46 B3s and an f32 B4?
I'm moving from the outskirts of London (Hornchurch) to 6 miles south of Birmingham city centre and it would seem B14/13 must be higher risk areas.
I'm currently with A-Plan, the B3s is up for a renewal...they quoted £265, for the Essex address, with protected bonus, legal cover and breakdown cover but with 6yrs instead of 16yrs ncb....probably should be 17yrs as it was 16 last year. I asked them to requote the B3s for Birmingham and 16yrs ncb but they quoted £375...still with 6yrs ncb....so I'll have to go back to George again.
In the meantime, I've contacted Adrian Flux, they've initially quoted £678 but when pushed came down to £487 but this was without a protected 16yrs bonus (as I'm looking to sell).....they quoted me £360 the day before on 6yrs ncb!
I'll be moved to Birmingham by early Feb, so hate to think what the B4's insurance will become!
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Re: Alpina Insurance
You are certainly involved in the post code lottery, if there have been more thefts of vehicles in the new Birmingham area than for example in Hornchurch this could well be the reason you premium has increased. The could also be numerous other factors, I tend to look at the quality of my insurance cover as opposed to the price.
In terms of recommendation, I don't have a specific one as that is also a lottery and can cost a lot of time in researching. One person will post they use xxxx and another yyyy, but they are not comparable unless exactly circumstances match which is a virtual impossibility.

Re: Alpina Insurance
The B3s is insured and at a decent price, so am well happy!
I stayed with A-Plan, they've tended to be a fair bit cheaper than Adrian Flux, over the last few years.
I hoped I would get the 16yrs ncb I have on the B4 but I'd only built up 6yrs on the B3s......even though I've had 17yrs claim free driving. It didn't matter in the end as Paul at A-Plan states there's no actual discount applied on specialist car insurance....as you're thought to be a lower risk, so better rates can be offered. He also states a Protected Bonus isn't charged for....well, not on my policy!
They sent me a quote for £308 but then said it was £348, as there was an arrangement fee! The £40 was waived as I had £308 in writing. I made a point of checking that the forum discount had been applied...it hadn't...so that gave me another £40 discount and a premium of £268...am happy with that!
Now I just need to sell the car!

Re: Alpina Insurance
Ok, here we are:
Car: e46 Facelift Coupe B3s - 101K miles on the clock
Driver Age: 64
Location: Birmingham B14 - Insured as car kept on drive
Use: SDP - 1000m/a...as intending to sell.
Value put on car £10k
NCB: Have 17yrs on the B4 but only 6yrs on the B3s....even though I've obviously had 17yrs claim free driving!
Company: A-Plan: Premium: Initially £348 but paper work didn't show £40 arrangement fee, so was waived + Forum discount not taken off, so another £40 discount. I paid £268.
Excess: £100 - Windscreen: £75 - Courtesy car but not covered driving other cars - No legal or breakdown cover
No charge for NCB protection & No actual discount given, apparently.....as Specialist car insurance owners seen to be less risk, so get a better rate?!
Also, was told, insurance renewal no cheaper if quoted a month early....as per Martin Lewis....for same reasons.
Thanks regarding potential buyer Hap, PM me the details?

Re: Alpina Insurance
Renewed mine last week and stuck with LV= after they offered me a renewal approx £40 cheaper than last years policy.
That's how things should work to my mind!
Amusingly in the lead up to my renewal date Adrian Flux phoned me and asked if i'd give them the opportunity to quote.
I was with Flux when i got my Alpina, so despite them absolutely having my pants down when i transferred my policy onto it and not even being able to recognize the car ("Alpina D5... Is it a motorhome sir?") i agreed to let them quote as i had a few minutes to spare, expecting the nice lady to get straight down to business and provide on offer in pretty short order as it was them who contacted me.
Instead i was thrown into the "on hold" pile with everyone else with the promise that it would only be for a minute or two.
I hung up after five and ignored their calls for the next few days. Jokers.

A-plan have just come in with £250 for the B10, agreed value etc. I'll call them later to see if anything else can be done. Sterling (non specialist) came in at £202 but no agreed value. Footman James were £300!! Refused to recognise the register too, weird really, they were good with the TVR. Hey-ho
