Alpina E36 question.

Post by monsterB3 » Mon Apr 25, 2022 6:08 pm

Hello folks.
I used to be a member on here years ago when I owned an E46 B3 3.3 saloon, sold a long time ago.
Random question for the knowledge on here. I have know of what I thought was an E36 Alpina coupe driven by an older lady, I’ve seen it on and off for over 20 years. In the last few weeks I’ve started seeing it again and clocked the reg, ran an MOT checker and it appears to be a BMW rather than an Alpina.
Today I met the owner randomly and got to talking. The car is an E36, one owner until she passed away recently (his auntie who left him the car). Registered as a 323i, 70k, 2.5 auto.
Genuine Alpina Wheels, front spoiler and rear wing from new from the dealer, the car cost about £36k from new in it current condition.
What I wanted to ask was if from new, you could spec all the Alpina cosmetic stuff, and would that rightly be classed as a rep? It’s a beautiful car.
Cheers, Mark.

Thanks guys.
Do these items add much value to an otherwise standard 323 with Auto box?
Thanks, Mark.

Some will still say it’s a rep, but as long as it doesn’t have B3 3.0 or 3.2 badging it’s not pretending to be something it’s not. Ultimately it’s a better looking 323i.

This is what I think as well.

There's value in the parts if it ever died. And there's a small amount of value for the fact it's well specced with Alpina add ons.

Sounds like it has the "Technik" or "Aerotek" pack as per this price list that came with my B2.5.

I am surprised to hear that it's on a 323i though as I thought the sale of these packs stopped in 1994 and the 323i didn't come along until 1995.

As for the value, it certainly makes it more appealing than a regular 323i and it wouldn't concern me that it was a rep. The fact that it's an auto is a shame, but manual swapping is very tried and tested if that was an issue for anybody.

That list of "packs" may have ended by 1994 but dealer fitted Alpina styling continued way after that with plenty of E38's and E39's having spoiler, wheel and even suspension sets fitted when new and i'm sure ive seen a few later E36's thus so as well.
