Hello - new owner of B5 #170

Post by jsat_100 » Thu Apr 14, 2022 11:32 am

Hi all,

I signed up a while back but hadn't got around to an "introduction" post - so hello!

I'm the new/current owner of B5 #170 and have been enjoying it very much since I got it. I've got a nice list of "to-do's" for the car which I'm slowly getting through and am going to try and make it as good as I can whilst still using it as my only 4-wheeler and keeping it original.

My last car was an F80 M3 Competition (2017) which just wasn't getting the use it deserves so I opted to make the change to something a little older which I could add some care and attention to. Somehow keeping an older car going has more appeal to me these days.

I had my heart set on #456 (the B5S) but after a test drive I was left feeling something was missing/not right and a test drive of B5 #170 proved me right, it did everything I expected so here I am!

I've enjoyed reading through older posts and conversations, a wealth of knowedge here and I hope to be able to add to it in a small way.

I'll get some recent pics of the car soon - esp now the weather "seems" to be better (fingers crossed for this weekend)...

Joel.

Yep that was fun, had it chipped by REVO and added a milltek exhaust and a different airbox, ended up pushing about 300+bhp, hilariously unusable in the wet! Lasted well though, ended up selling on at about 70K miles.

You got rid of the M3 Comp? How come?

Yes, I just wasn't using it and it felt like a lot of money to be just sitting there. At one point last year it didn't move for 6 weeks.

I looked around for something cheaper, older that wouldn't matter so much (or indeed help) if not used so much and quickly got bored looking at grey hatchbacks and sensible runarounds and found myself eyeing up E38's, E39 M5's, B10 Alpina's and finally landed on the E60 which seemed a nice compromise of "different" yet useable when I'll need it to be...and I quite like the fact it's sensible/bonkers in the same breath.

That's a very succinct way of describing H1 ownership.
