Black Alpna Classics

Post by gazoo » Thu Jun 17, 2021 12:43 pm

Has anyone seen a white D3 with Black Alpina Classics?

I'm thinking of changing mine from silver to black. What does everyone think?

Personally I'm not a fan of black wheels on anything as the wheels look 'lost' to me but it's your car etc.

If you can't find a picture of one adorned with these if you know anyone handy with Photoshop or equivalent it might be a good idea to get an image put together with your car and the black wheels taken from something else to see what you think before you spend any money.

My F31 came with black wheels, and I must admit I wasn’t sure at first. The dealer had the wheels refurbed prior to me collecting the car and gave me the choice of colour. I opted to keep them black but went for satin rather than gloss. They have definitely grown on me and they get some very positive comments.

With bold colour callipers it can work IMO.

Unless you can put up with them scratching/swirling and chipping to show the base material, I'd say avoid them. Went full black once and regretted it almost immediately as road grime scored them badly. One of my cars is bicolour now (base gloss black with large machined areas in lacquer only, which helps) but those wheels don't work as full silver and they are relatively easy to polish and seal. Classics/Dynamics look their best in silver and the finish lasts longer...and they're hellish awkward to polish out the swirls and marks on gloss black wheels. I always think satin black just looks like brake dust :think and I'd be forever trying to clean them!

Cheers
