Tyre Inflator

Post by Avtar » Mon May 10, 2021 11:30 am

Hi Gents,

I am looking for a good tyre inflator to keep in the car, any recommendations as the choice out there is mind boggling? The standard BMW supplied does not cover a high enough BAR rating.

Thanks

Hi, I have one of these. I got mine from Costco ages ago but you can get loads of places online if you don't have access to a card. Just google CAT 1000 jump starter and compressor.

https://www.costco.co.uk/Tyres-Automoti ... /p/9141571

I keep in the boot of my daily and although not a small thing as it's a full jump pack it does mean you have portable power if ever needed (charge phone/tablet etc) and if anyone ever wants a jump-start I don't need to touch my car (surprisingly it has come in useful a couple of times to help others out). Not bad for £80 imo. It also means no need to plug into your cigarette lighter to power as all enclosed. Tends to stay charged for ages and a digital display to show the state and I just periodically take into the house and plug into the mains to keep topped up.

Really useful for us with 4 cars and 2 bikes in the household so I can just wander round each on the occasional weekend and check/adjust pressures without any cables.

Cheers,

Jules

I have the rechargeable Ring pump. Has been great and with no trailing wires very user friendly. It is costly but I got mine with Nectar points😁. The Centre pin disappeared recently which was annoying but a quick email to Ring and they sent me a complete brass connector out to me free of charge no questions asked!

Had one of the Michelin ones for years and keep it in the back of the car. They still sell the same one currently at Argos rather than Halfords where I got mines years ago. I use it often, rated upto 50PSI, so what you need.

Link https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7405244 ... lsrc=3p.ds and only £45.

I like the idea of a self contained unit, having to get out the inflator and 12v power out each time is a bind. I've been converting to a few Makita 18v tools and see they do an inflator too so as I already have the batteries I might go for one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-DMP180Z ... B085M2C6CP

The supplied BMW inflator is as much use as a chocolate tea pot. I use it exclusively for my bicycle.

Bought this instead, lives in the boot with a can of Tyreweld, £50.
Heavy duty, capable of running a small air receiver.
Never used it on Brunhild, pumped up the 275/19s on the diesel from flat to 2.7 bar in about 3 mins.
Quiet, hardly any vibration, accurate gauge, long lighter lead, 5 mtr curly whirly hose that’s easy to unfurl, connect and stow.
Can reach all round the car with it standing in the boot.

Saying it’s a product of the PRC, actually, very good.

Everyone’s needs are different. Yer pays your money……….

Great to hear Barry. Funnily enough I used it today (seems I have a very slow puncture) and I've found since buying it I check/top up my pressures much more regularly, which can only be a good thing.

May I ask where you ordered this from and did you buy it as a complete kit, there are a great variance of prices out there? I do have Makita tools but they are of an older battery design.

I bought mine from FFX here:

https://www.ffx.co.uk/Product/Get/Makit ... -Bare-Unit

Alternatively it seems to be available with a battery and charger from here, although I haven't used these folks so can't vouch for them:

https://www.fastfix.co.uk/makita-dmp180 ... lator.html

It might be cheaper to buy the battery and charger elsewhere so worth doing some further research.

As a tip, if there is a "Z" in the product title then it comes as a bare unit. No "Z" means it comes with a battery.

Plenty of options as per Simon and James but I was specifically interested in the bare unit as I already have a couple of the Makita batteries & charger so the pump cost £52.99 from Westward Builders - it's arrived and nice to not have to plug it into a power pack to use like my old one
