Re: Finally joined the club with a G21 B3
I had the day off today to detail the car and a few hours in, a bloke in a van rocks up next door to start jet washing her filthy block paved driveway. That wouldn’t normally be a problem except that it’s gusty today and I’m downwind, so with all the crap flying my way I’ll have to start all over again another day.
I’m mesmerised by Alpina Blue. In dull conditions it is very similar to Montego Blue, a rich, lovely colour I am familiar with from my E86. When the sun comes out though a single panel can transition from blue to purple. I’m a terrible photographer and it’s hard for me to capture, but it’s beautiful.

The different blues in Alpina Blue look great in the sun. Do let us know what products you are using for your new car detail and how much you charge.
I think mine will be a permanent feature on the "Dirty Alpina" thread.

Totally agree with this - it's an amazing colour. I think you really appreciate it when washing the car, as you tend to look at it from different angles. I couldn't believe how one panel can be a bright blue in the sun, where another can be a deep purple in the shade.Jonnywishbone wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 3:45 pmI’m mesmerised by Alpina Blue. I thought I liked Alpina Blue when I bought my car, but I absolutely love it now. It's amazing how many people comment on the colour too - it seems to be the first thing they mention.
Your B3 looks fantastic - I love the rear wheel arch in that last photo.
Enjoy!

Literally dozens of lotions and potions. I’m probably a bit “all the gear no idea” but I find it enjoyable and it’s good exercise. I’d recommend Bilt Hamber as they don’t make a bad product, they’re good value and they’re an Essex based company.churchie386 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 6:09 pmThe different blues in Alpina Blue look great in the sun. Only a hundred or so. I’m a bit wary that driving a conspicuous motor with a plate that might not show up on ANPR might be a Covid cop magnet. Your car is arriving soon isn’t it and IIRC you ordered from the same dealer?
Thanks Paul. In only a couple of days I’ve noticed that the car gets way more attention than I had anticipated, including a DPD delivery driver who wanted to take a picture of the car today. But even the non-car people comment on the colour.ScooBeeFive wrote: ↑Thu Mar 11, 2021 8:31 pm

Good stuff. Not trying to give you false hope but my car went into production Jan week 1, there was apparently some hold up due to paperwork relating to Brexit that may be less of an issue as time goes on, as well as some delays getting it on to a transporter and it still arrived 9 weeks later, so maybe you will get lucky.

Congratulations on your purchase!
Did you deal with Robbie at HW? It's who I bought my M4 from.

Yes, Robbie’s a good guy, enthusiastic and personable.
I can’t find your car doing a quick scan of your posts but I know you posted a pic of it somewhere - green with gold wheels and orange-brown leather interior? I’m pretty sure I saw your car in PDI it would’ve been late July/early August time. Robbie was very proud of it and enjoyed showing it off as a contrast to the Alpina Green of the B5 demo they had in at the same time. Your car looks genuinely amazing in the metal (not that you need me to tell you that!)

I posted a pic of it with its gold wheels on the interior thread on here but here is a pic of it on collection day last August.Jonnywishbone wrote: ↑Tue Mar 16, 2021 12:23 amYes, Robbie’s a good guy, enthusiastic and personable.

It must have been my car you saw as there is only one other Verde Ermes F82 M4 in the UK and that had a black interior as was sold by Arden Maidstone.
Robbie is a great guy, I have worked with plenty of BMW salesmen over the years (me being an ex dealer senior tech) and he is one of the nicest and most enthusiastic out of all them.
I did actually go to see the LHD green G21 B3 that was doing the rounds when it was at HW and was very tempted to place an order as in 2019 I came close to buying the last RHD F31 B3S (which Dan S now owns) but pulled out when I found out it had already been built (despite Nottingham saying otherwise!) and was not spec changeable.
Depending on how the next few years pan out I may still place an order for a G21 B3 but we will see.
As for running in and servicing, I am a believer in that BMW's guidelines are not enough, 15-18K mile oil and filter changes is madness! I ran my M4 in, in a near identical method to what was written in that page from your Alpina hand book and have done another oil and filer change at 5k miles and will continue to do them every 5k in between the BMW guide lines of every 2 years/18k miles for an oil service. I log each oil change in the cars digital and on line service history but dont reset the service counter until the 2 year/18k mile interval. I also bought a paper service book to stamp as im old school!
I have a thread going on my car which details maintenance and OEM upgrades.
https://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/threads/ ... on.230006/
Keep up the good work, its always good to read peoples experiences with their cars.
