Alpina E24 side decals

Post by GraemeF » Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:29 pm

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum but not new to classic BMW ownership...

I have a lovely lachssilver E254 highline with Alpina drivetrain and running gear (B11 ex E32?)

Code: Select all

Hopefully you can see the image from above - (I don't do image hosting!)

...and would really like some proper Alpina decals and stripes for the sides probably in black (as she has a back interior?)

Is there anyone on here who knows where I can get some or produces them themselves?

Thanks!

Nice, so this isn't a B11 e24 but one with the mechanicals from an e32 B11? Any idea of the ID of the car that lot came from? So your very own e24 B11. I'd say wheels go silver, and the deko kit, a thin lined deko would be good but black would look a bit odd wouldn't it?

Cool, I love a 6er. Did you do the transplant yourself, any info on who and when would be great, ever curious as to this kind of work, as engine and driveline transplants are also a feature of the E9 world.

What colour decals do you think, agree I'm not sure black would work well with the black wheels.

Cracking machine, I would consider the original blue / green decals as your silver seems quite light. Silver wheels would set it off a treat.

Lovely car and can't imagine anyone not liking an e24.

What I think is interesting about this transplant is that if the original e32 B11 was a basket case then it has been kept alive to some degree by underpinning this lovely car. Rather than thinking about these mods in a negative way it might be a way to view them as providing some continuity where there is no hope. It would be good to understand there history. I have seen quite a lot of interesting e9 transplant articles and some of them look amazing with modern M5 mechanicals.

not sure anybody could look at the modifications as unnecessary or negatively, if that B11 had bad rot/rust/accident damage this would be the best thing. If it was taken from a 'healthy' car thats a different matter.

But there are very few B11 e24's on these shores today so its nice to see even a home brewed car appear.

Never did these on the later cars with that style of deko kit, far too garish for the later e24 IMO, but look nice for some reason on the earlier e12 based 6 though.

Thanks all for your comments and recommendations! I have spoken with Simon now and we are deciding on the best option and colours for the stripes - we're thinking fairly thin in a dark graphite grey would be good against the lachs silver paintwork?

There's a little paintwork touching in to be done first so we'll probably get that done and then wait for the warmer weather to get the decals added.

In answer to the question about the donor car and the story behind this car - it was made by a BMW enthusiast (owner) and his best buddy and golfing partner a BMW service manager in N Ireland in the mid 2000s, All the suspension bits were ordered through the dealership parts department (M635) in return for using the ramps on Saturday afternoons and Sundays (when they weren't golfing!) .

I am told the donor B11 (E32 1989) car was G572 NRR (CHASSIS DB32287) and was either crashed or exceptionally rusty...all the drivetrain (incl 4sp ZF gearbox) and brake calipers were included - Sam the owner opted to get the Alpina rims painted dark grey because he through they would look too light compared to the light grey paintwork - probably will get the Alpina stripes a similar colour then they more look more in keeping with it?

If anyone knows (or knew) the B11 it would be great to see some pics? (last registered in London) - so looking forward to getting her looking more of the part (and some use this year please!!!)

excellent, so that B11, thanks for putting that info up. That was a hi spec B11, reg in Aug 89, was a diamond black car with silver interior, my details say it was an auto. But it had a 3.91S diff and had everything fitted to it complete with the exhaust manifold (which I find a little odd, but thats what Sytners build details make mention of).

Nice to see an e24. Agree Dark Graphite would look good but I think I would go for Gold.

Great bit of history there Graeme. I know a little about the original B11, it was #8234. There are a few pics of it in it's glory days on both the Register and Archive.
